Khammam: A car driver identified as MD Gous (57) was arrested by Khammam police for allegedly attempting to sexually assault a 12-year-old girl and pushing her from the third floor of an apartment building after she raised an alarm. The incident came to light after the severely injured girl, who had been in an unconscious condition, regained consciousness and narrated the incident to her family members.

According to police, the incident occurred on June 6, 2026, in Raparthi Nagar, Khammam. The Khammam ACP Ramanamurthy disclosed the case details to the media on June 9.

The 12-year-old girl, who resides in an apartment in Raparthi Nagar, was allegedly targeted by MD Gous, a car driver living in the same apartment complex. While the girl was going upstairs from the second floor, the accused dragged her and attempted to sexually assault her. When the girl started screaming, Gous feared that someone might arrive and catch him, and pushed her from the third floor before fleeing the spot.

The girl sustained serious injuries after falling from the building. Her mother and grandmother shifted her to a private hospital. As she was in an unconscious state, family members initially believed that she had fallen accidentally.

After regaining consciousness on June 9, the girl informed her mother and maternal uncle about the incident. Based on her statement, a complaint was lodged at the Khammam II Town Police Station.

Police recorded the victim’s statement and registered a case under the POCSO Act and provisions relating to attempt to murder. The accused was subsequently arrested. ACP Ramanamurthy and CI Balakrishna stated that the girl suffered fractures to her spine and ribs and is presently in a stable condition.

Police said the victim would be shifted to the Bharosa Centre after her recovery and subjected to further medical examinations. They added that if sexual assault is established through the investigation and medical examination, additional sections would be invoked in the case.

According to the Khammam Police Department, the victim’s father lodged a complaint at Khammam II Town Police Station on June 9, following which a case was registered under attempt to murder and the POCSO Act. The victim’s statement was recorded, and medical examinations were conducted as part of the investigation.

Based on the evidence collected so far, police identified the accused as MD Gous, 57, a car driver residing at G Pride Apartment, Raparthi Nagar, Khammam. He was arrested within 24 hours of the registration of the case and produced before a court for remand.

Police stated that the investigation is continuing and that further details would be disclosed after the completion of the probe. They also said strict action has been taken in the case.

Police warned that anyone circulating the victim’s photograph, name, or identifying details on social media would face legal action under the POCSO Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Images circulating widely on social media are being cited as suggesting that the accused has political links with the Khammam unit of the BRS party.

Congress leader and State Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said the government would ensure the protection and treatment of the girl, who was subjected to sexual harassment by the accused.
