The Telangana Congress has expelled TPCC Vice President Mujahid Alam Khan following his arrest in connection with the murder of Hyderabad-based advocate Khaja Moizuddin, a lawyer known for handling cases related to Waqf properties and alleged encroachments on Waqf land.
Announcing the decision, TPCC Disciplinary Committee Chairman and MP Mallu Ravi said the party had taken serious note of the allegations and imposed disciplinary action after the arrest of the senior party functionary.
According to Hyderabad Police, advocate Khaja Moizuddin was allegedly murdered in a planned vehicle attack near his residence at Masab Tank on May 23, 2026. Police said the advocate was leaving for his regular morning swimming session when he was intentionally hit by a Scorpio vehicle. He sustained grievous injuries and later died while undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Police have arrested TPCC Vice President Mujahid Alam Khan, his father Mahaboob Alam Khan, Kishan alias Pappu, Vinay, Abhijeeth alias Nani, Vikram Aditya alias Chintu, and Manideep alias Pogo Nani in connection with the case. The Scorpio vehicle allegedly used in the crime, along with cash and mobile phones, has been seized. Police said efforts are continuing to trace and arrest other absconding accused.
According to Hyderabad Police, the investigation uncovered a long-running dispute between the deceased advocate and the family of Mujahid Alam Khan over Waqf properties and related legal cases in Hyderabad. Investigators alleged that the accused developed a grudge against the advocate because of ongoing litigation and legal setbacks arising from those disputes.
Police further alleged that Mujahid Alam Khan and Mahaboob Alam Khan conspired with associates to eliminate the advocate through a contract killing allegedly worth ₹15 lakh. Investigators stated that the accused had allegedly conducted surveillance on the lawyer for several months before executing the attack using the Scorpio vehicle on May 23.
Khaja Moizuddin, 63, was a senior advocate who had practised for more than three decades in Hyderabad courts. He was associated with multiple cases concerning Waqf properties and alleged encroachments on Waqf land. Family members have claimed that he faced threats because of his legal work and had expressed concerns about his safety. His son has publicly alleged that there had been previous attempts to target him.
The murder has attracted attention because of the lawyer’s involvement in litigation concerning valuable Waqf properties. Family members and supporters have suggested that his legal battles over disputed Waqf lands may have been linked to the motive behind the crime. Police have similarly identified Waqf-related disputes as a key angle in the investigation.
The case has also generated political reactions. AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi stated that the advocate had allegedly been receiving threats for several years and called for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. AIMIM leaders have also highlighted Moizuddin’s role in pursuing Waqf-related litigation and protecting Waqf properties through legal channels.
The Telangana Congress, meanwhile, moved swiftly to distance itself from the controversy by expelling Alam Khan after his arrest. The development has brought political attention to the case given the senior position held by the accused within the state Congress organisation.
The arrests were made by the investigating team led by ACP P. Praveen Kumar of Abids Division, with the assistance of Inspector CH Saidulu, Sub-Inspector M.A. Adil Riyaz Khan and personnel of Nampally Police Station under the supervision of senior officers of Hyderabad City Police.
With the alleged murder linked by investigators to disputes involving Waqf properties and ongoing legal battles, the case has emerged as one of the most high-profile criminal investigations in Telangana in recent months. Further investigation is underway, and police are continuing efforts to gather additional evidence and apprehend remaining suspects.
