A shocking case of alleged identity concealment and forced religious conversion has emerged from Maharashtra’s Mira-Bhayander area, where a woman has accused her husband of hiding his real name and religion before marriage and later pressuring her to convert to Islam through repeated harassment and assault.

The accused, who introduced himself as “Manoj” before marriage, was later allegedly discovered to be Noor Alam. Police have registered a case against him at Navghar police station in Bhayander and launched a search operation, as the accused is currently absconding.

Woman says husband concealed identity before marriage

According to the complaint filed by the victim, identified as Pratima Malhar, she had entered into a love marriage with a man she knew as Manoj nearly 16 years ago.

The duo later had a son and continued living together for years.

However, the woman alleged that around three years after the marriage, she discovered that her husband’s real name was not Manoj but Noor Alam.

According to the complaint, the truth came to light after she allegedly saw his voter identity card, which carried a different name and exposed what she described as a long-running deception regarding his identity and religion.

The revelation reportedly left the woman shocked, as she claimed she had been unaware of his actual identity at the time of marriage.

Allegations of pressure for religious conversion and assault

The complaint further alleges that after his real identity became known, Noor Alam began repeatedly pressuring the woman to convert to Islam.

Pratima Malhar accused him of physically assaulting her, mentally harassing her and subjecting her to sexual abuse in order to force religious conversion.

According to reports, the alleged harassment continued for years, leaving the woman emotionally and mentally distressed.

The victim stated that due to constant pressure and abuse, she eventually converted and started using the name “Nasreen Alam.”

However, despite the conversion, the alleged abuse and mistreatment reportedly continued.

Accused abandoned family and went absconding

According to the complaint, Noor Alam had distanced himself from the family over the past few months before disappearing.

Police sources said the accused is currently absconding and efforts are underway to trace him.

The couple reportedly lived in a house purchased on EMI in Bhayander.

Following the woman’s complaint, Navghar police station registered a case against the accused under relevant sections related to assault, harassment, cheating and other alleged offences.

Investigators are currently examining the allegations of forced conversion and identity concealment as part of the ongoing probe.

Police begin investigation after formal complaint

Police officials confirmed that an FIR has been registered based on the victim’s complaint and search teams have been deployed to locate the accused.

Authorities are also verifying documents and evidence submitted by the complainant, including identity records and details related to the marriage.

The case has once again brought attention to incidents involving allegations of identity concealment, coercive religious conversion and abuse within relationships.

Further investigation in the matter is underway.
