Bagalkote: A controversy erupted at the historic Badami Mandir complex in Bagalkote district after a Muslim staff member was allegedly found wearing slippers inside the sacred Mandir premises, triggering strong objections from Hindu tourists and devotees present at the site. The incident, captured on a mobile phone video, has now gone viral across social media platforms and sparked widespread outrage and debate.

According to eyewitnesses and videos circulating online, the incident took place at one of Badami’s prominent heritage Mandir locations, which attracts thousands of devotees and tourists every year. A Hindu tourist woman allegedly noticed the Muslim staff member sitting inside the Mandir premises while still wearing slippers and immediately objected to the act, calling it disrespectful towards the religious site.

The woman is seen in the viral video confronting the employee and demanding that the footwear be removed immediately. She allegedly accused the staff member of repeatedly ignoring requests to follow Mandir customs despite being informed several times about the sanctity of the premises.

Eyewitnesses said the argument quickly escalated into a heated verbal confrontation, drawing the attention of other tourists and visitors at the Mandir complex. Several people reportedly sided with the tourist woman and questioned the employee over why footwear was being worn inside a sacred Hindu religious place.

In the video, the Hindu woman can be heard saying that she had politely requested the employee to remove the slippers, but the latter allegedly continued to remain seated without complying. The tourist woman further accused the staff member of showing arrogance and disrespect towards Hindu religious sentiments.

As the confrontation intensified, the Muslim staff member appeared visibly distressed and emotional. The video shows the young woman crying and making phone calls to acquaintances while explaining the situation. The emotional visuals from the spot have further amplified reactions online.

The tourist woman also reportedly compared the situation with practices followed at Islamic religious places. She questioned whether anyone would be allowed to enter a dargah while wearing slippers and argued that all places of worship deserve equal respect, irrespective of religion.

During the altercation, the woman is also heard referring to the employee’s identity card and urging her to learn to respect religious customs and traditions followed at Mandirs. Her remarks have since triggered strong reactions on social media, where many users supported her stand and criticised the alleged violation of temple norms.

Several social media users argued that wearing footwear inside the Mandir premises hurts the sentiments of devotees and reflects disregard for long-standing religious practices. Many users demanded strict guidelines for staff members and tourists visiting religious heritage sites to ensure that customs are followed without exception.

The exact identity and employment details of the woman seen in the viral video have not yet been officially confirmed. It also remains unclear whether she was employed directly under the Mandir administration, the tourism department or any private agency associated with the heritage site.

So far, no official complaint has reportedly been filed regarding the incident. Police and local authorities have also not issued any formal statement on the viral video or the confrontation. However, the issue has become a major talking point across Karnataka, particularly on social media platforms where the video continues to circulate widely.

Badami, known for its ancient cave Mandirs and historical importance under the Chalukya dynasty, is considered one of Karnataka’s major heritage destinations. Religious customs, including removing footwear before entering sacred spaces, are strictly followed by devotees and visitors at such sites.

The incident has once again brought attention to the importance of respecting religious traditions and maintaining decorum at places of worship. As reactions continue to pour in online, the viral video has turned into a fresh flashpoint in discussions surrounding religious sensitivity and conduct at sacred sites.
