Bhubaneswar: Odisha School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond stated that nation-building is achievable only through the character-building of individuals. He emphasized that education should not be confined to merely scoring high marks in examinations; its primary objective must also be to cultivate values, discipline, social responsibility, and a sense of patriotism among students. He further noted that Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandirs, run by Vidya Bharati Shiksha Vikas Samiti, Odisha, are working toward this very goal.

He made these remarks while addressing the “Medhavi Abhinandan -2026” program organised by Vidya Bharati Shiksha Vikas Samiti, Odisha, at the auditorium of the Institute of Minerals and Technology in Bhubaneswar. The event honored students who excelled in the Class 10 board examinations this year.

“Character Building is the Foundation of Nation Building”

Minister Gond emphasized that true education transcends academic achievements. He stated that institutions such as Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandirs, operated by Vidya Bharati, play a crucial role in shaping disciplined, responsible, and value-driven citizens.

According to him, these schools provide not only quality education but also actively contribute to character formation, which is reflected in the holistic development of their students. He observed that students from these institutions consistently excel academically while also demonstrating strong social and ethical values.

Success Attributed to Teachers’ Dedication

Highlighting the consistent academic performance of Vidya Bharati schools, the minister noted that Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandirs have once again achieved excellent results in the Class 10 board examinations this year.

He attributed this success to the dedication, discipline, and tireless efforts of teachers, whom he respectfully referred to as “Guruji” and “Gurumata.” He stated that educators in these institutions go beyond textbooks, nurturing students in discipline, ethics, and life values.

“The teachers associated with Vidya Bharati institutions deserve special appreciation for their commitment and contributions to society,” he said.

He further stressed that education should not be limited to securing employment opportunities; it must also aim to develop responsible citizens who understand their duties toward society and the nation.

Social Responsibility and National Duty Essential for Students

In his address, Minister Gond underscored the growing need for students to recognize their responsibilities toward society. He noted that while many individuals today are primarily driven by economic aspirations, it is equally important to be aware of one’s obligations to the community.

He stated that Vidya Bharati schools instill a sense of social service, patriotism, and Indian cultural values among students, helping them grow into responsible citizens in later life.

“These institutions ensure that students not only acquire academic knowledge but also develop a strong sense of duty toward society and the nation,” he added.

NEP 2020 Emphasis on Indian Languages and Culture

Referring to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the minister highlighted that the policy places a strong emphasis on Indian languages and cultural heritage. He stated that NEP encourages early education in mother tongues to enhance conceptual understanding and maintain cultural connections among students.

He added that the Odisha government is committed to promoting mother tongue-based education and is sensitive to preserving linguistic and cultural identity within the state’s education system.

Medhavi Students Felicitated for Outstanding Performance

During the event, 25 students who scored over 95 percent in the Class 10 board examinations were recognized. Minister Gond stated that the achievements of these students are a source of pride not only for their families but for the entire state.

He praised their dedication and hard work, noting that such achievements serve as an inspiration for other students across Odisha.

Contribution of Parents and Teachers Acknowledged

The minister also emphasized the significant role of parents and teachers in shaping successful students. He acknowledged that parents make continuous sacrifices for their children’s betterment and bright futures, while teachers provide constant guidance with patience and commitment.

He extended his heartfelt congratulations to all parents and teachers for their invaluable contributions to students’ success.

Inspirational Message for Top Performers

Addressing the meritorious students, Minister Gond encouraged them to serve as role models for others. He emphasized that their discipline, hard work, and achievements would inspire future generations.

He urged students to remain humble even after their success and to continue working hard with determination. He advised them to stay confident and use self-belief as their strongest tool to reach greater milestones in life.

Eight Schools Recognised for Excellence

On this occasion, eight Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir schools were honored for their remarkable academic performance. These institutions achieved 100 percent results, with all students securing above 60 percent in the examinations.

Officials reported that out of 322 Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir schools across Odisha, a total of 15,214 students appeared for the Class 10 board examinations this year, of whom 15,209 successfully passed, resulting in an impressive overall success rate of 99.97 percent.

Among these, 317 schools achieved a 100 percent pass rate, while 15 schools ensured that all students scored above 60 percent.

State Toppers and High Achievers Honoured

The ceremony also recognized state-level joint toppers Partha Sarathi Mahanta and Aniket Patra, along with other high-achieving students, their parents, and school principals.

It was noted that out of approximately 2,400 students in Odisha who scored above 90 percent (A1 grade), 779 belonged to Vidya Bharati institutions. This achievement highlights the schools’ strong academic environment and disciplined learning system.

Launch of “Krititva Vartika” Souvenir

A commemorative publication titled “Krititva Vartika,” showcasing the achievements of meritorious students, was also released during the program.

The event was attended by several distinguished guests. Srikant Tarai, Chairman of the Board of Secondary Education, Odisha, was the special guest, while Deshraj Sharma, National General Secretary of Vidya Bharati, delivered the keynote address. The session was presided over by Dr. Kishore Chandra Mohanty.

The event began with an introduction of guests by Dr. Saroj Kumar Hati, followed by a welcome address by Tarak Das Sarkar. The program was conducted by Manoj Kumar Das, and the vote of thanks was delivered by former Sambhag  secretary Pankaj Kumar Kar.

Officials also highlighted that Vidya Bharati institutions have consistently maintained strong academic results over the years. The latest examination results reflect not only academic excellence but also the effectiveness of the value-based education imparted in these schools.
