Even as the controversy over DMK MLA Udhayanidhi Stalin’s repeated calls for the eradication of Sanatana Dharma continues to trigger outrage across Tamil Nadu, the row has now intensified with TVK Madurai Central MLA VMS Mustafa and former Congress MLA Hassan Moulana openly echoing similar remarks against Sanatana Dharma.

V.M.S. Mustafa (Madhar Badurudeen), the founding president of the Tamil Nadu Muslim League (TNML) and the TVK MLA from Madurai Central, has declared that his party has entered the political field to eradicate Sanatana Dharma. Talking to the media, he said, “We also have Periyar and Ambedkar, and we’ve entered the field to eradicate Sanatana (Dharma).”

Tamilnadu politics. Musthafa TVK Madurai Central MLA. You also want to eliminate Sanathana Dharma. So my dear Hypocrite, answer few questions

2. Why does your leader Vijay visit…

Vijay’s own party MLA VMS Mustafa endorsed Udhayanidhi’s controversial remarks in the Assembly, saying, “We too subscribe to the ideals of Periyar and Ambedkar. We too have entered the fray to abolish Sanatana.”

Former Congress MLA Hassan Moulana has also declared that Sanatana Dharma is out of Tamil Nadu and will not prosper there.

BJP youth wing functionary SG Surya said, “This arrogant statement is a direct insult to the millions of practising Hindus who live and breathe their faith in our spiritual land.”

TN BJP former chief K Annamalai said, “DMK and TVK, in their very short history, have proven to the people that they are two sides of the same coin. DMK has forgotten what their constant attack on Sanatana Hindu Dharma has brought them to. TVK will also soon remember. If either DMK or TVK had the courage of conviction, they should have openly declared during their election campaigns that targeting Sanatana Hindu Dharma would be central to their politics. Instead, they hid behind secularism and theatrics, only to reveal their true intentions after seeking votes from the very people whose faith they now insult with arrogance and impunity.”

Days after DMK MLA Thiru Udhayanidhi Stalin spoke about eradicating Sanathana Hindu Dharma on the floor of the legislative assembly, TVK MLA Thiru VMS Mustafa came in support of Thiru Udhayanidhi Stalin’s remarks. TN BJP chief spokesperson Narayanan Tirupathi, in a post on X, questioned Mustafa’s comments, saying, “A Muslim, and especially a people’s representative, speaking derogatorily about the Hindu religion and declaring that it will be eradicated is an act that severely damages religious harmony. Will Mustafa, who criticises Sanatana Dharma as a way of life, dare to criticise the Islamic faith? Will he come forward with criticism of Christianity?”

The statement made by T V K’s @TVKPartyHQ “s legislative assembly member Mustafa — “We have entered the political field only to eradicate Sanatanam” — is highly condemnable.

Try eradicating the eternal and you will plunge into oblivion and be eradicated yourself.”

One of the netizens, Sanghi Princes, said, “Imagine the outrage and the number of FIRs being filed if these two were Hindus and they talked about eradicating the Waqf for land-grabbing. Critics say the Assembly has turned into a place for disparaging comments against Sanatana Dharma and a forum for Muslim and Christian propaganda. They recall that earlier, the TN Assembly session started daily with the reading of a Thirukkural couplet and its meaning, but this procedure has now reportedly been discontinued. Some also alleged that the Speaker comes to the House with a picture of Jesus in his shirt pocket, raising questions about equal treatment of all religions.

In the previous Assembly, then Speaker M Appavu openly expressed his affection for Christianity and allegedly behaved like a DMK leader inside the House. Outside, he praised Christianity and said that the British and Christian missionaries were responsible for opening up education to marginalised communities.

There was also an attempt to change the street name from Sivan Koil Street to ‘Haji Street’ in Kayalpattinam, a Muslim-majority town.

Hindu Munnani senior functionary VP Jayakumar questioned whether Muslims would agree to rename it as ‘Pakistan Street’.
