RAIPUR — A massive month-long coordinated operation across the dense and difficult terrain of Abujhmad has resulted in a staggering blow to the Maoist insurgency. A joint task force—consisting of the Chhattisgarh Police, District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), ITBP, and BSF—successfully uncovered hidden dumps approximately 400 km south of the state capital.
The Seizure: Cash and High-Grade Arsenal
The security forces recovered exactly Rs 1,01,64,000 in liquid cash. Alongside the monetary recovery, the task force seized a diverse and lethal array of 28 distinct firearms, including:
- AK-47 Assault Rifles
- Self-Loading Rifles (SLR) and INSAS Rifles
- .303 Rifles with corresponding ammunition
- Barrel Grenade Launcher (BGL) shells
- Electronic detonators and cordex wires used for IED manufacturing
Bastar Range Inspector General of Police, Sundarraj P, emphasized that this recovery directly strikes at the Maoists’ weaponry supply chain and their ability to manufacture improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Intelligence-Led Success
The intensification of search operations over the last month was not coincidental. Narayanpur district police chief Robinson Guria noted that the mission was fueled by critical information extracted from surrendered Maoist cadres combined with granular local inputs. The success of the “Maad Bachao Abhiyan” is also being attributed to a robust intelligence network and the active cooperation of local villagers.
Stabilizing the Region
The scale of the offensive against insurgents in Narayanpur is reflected in the fiscal year data. In 2025-26 alone, security forces have recovered a total of 270 weapons in the district. Tuesday’s seizure of 28 firearms is viewed as a pivotal moment in the ongoing effort to stabilize the region.
Despite this victory, authorities believe more dumps containing explosives and supplies remain concealed within the vast Abujhmad jungles. The police have issued a public appeal to villagers to maintain their support and report any suspicious activities as the search operations continue.
