Imphal: Indian army reviews its operational preparedness in the trouble-hit state of Manipur. Lt Gen Girish Kalia, AVSM, VSM, General Officer Commanding Spear Corps, on May 7, visited forward areas of Red Shield Division at Kangvai, Sendra, Litan and YKPI in Manipur to review the prevailing security situation and operational preparedness of troops deployed in the region. The review by GOC Lt. Gen Kalia was considered as very crucial as the state in going through a fresh spat of violence starting from the first week of April.

During the visit, the Corps Commander undertook an aerial reconnaissance of areas affected by the recent Tangkhul Naga–Kuki clashes and assessed the overall security dynamics in the region. He also interacted with commanders and troops deployed on ground and appreciated their professionalism, operational alertness, vigilance and steadfast commitment towards maintaining peace, stability and security in the area.

Lt Gen Girish Kalia also visited the Red Shield Drone Lab at Leimakhong Military Station, where he reviewed the pioneering efforts being undertaken in indigenous drone assembly, repair and specialised training in drone warfare. The Corps Commander commended the innovative initiatives aimed at developing mission-oriented drone solutions tailored to operational requirements and lauded the troops for their technical expertise, professionalism and futuristic approach.

The visit reaffirmed the commitment of the Indian Army towards strengthening operational readiness, enhancing technological capabilities and ensuring peace and security in the region through innovation, vigilance and dedicated service.

Assam Rifles averted major escalation

In the early hours of May 7, heavy firing and explosions were reported near Z Choro and opposite Namlee along the India Myanmar Border by suspected Myanmar based militants. Despite the volatile situation, troops of the Assam Rifles responded proactively  and moved into the affected area under challenging conditions to safeguard people.

During the operation many rescue teams were deployed without delay. Ten houses affected by the violence were secured and civilians evacuated. Fifteen distressed villagers, including women and children, were safely rescued and provided humanitarian assistance at Aloyo Assam Rifles camp. A Myanmarese woman from Namlee was provided with immediate first aid and medical evacuation support.

Assam Rifles conducted rapid area sanitisation operations to prevent further escalation and restore stability. One armed cadre was apprehended along with an AK-47 rifle, magazine and ammunition during search operations and later handed over to local police authorities.

Even as tensions remained high, Assam Rifles under continued domination patrols across other sensitive areas of Kamjong district to ensure peace and security for local residents. The operation conducted by the alert troops once again highlights the unwavering commitment of Assam Rifles towards protecting our citizens and maintaining peace along the Indo-Mayanmar Border, said by PRO Defence, Guwahati Lt. Col Mahendra Rawat.
