Kolkata: Amid reports of attacks on Trinamool Congress (TMC) offices in several parts of West Bengal following the May 4 election results, BJP West Bengal has alleged that elements linked to the ruling party were attempting to impersonate BJP workers to create disorder and mislead the public.
In a statement issued by BJP West Bengal, the party claimed that members of the Trinamool’s so-called “Gunda Vahini” were engaging in political masquerading to trigger unrest and tarnish the BJP’s image.
“It has come to our notice that elements of the Trinamool’s so-called ‘Gunda Vahini’ are attempting to impersonate BJP workers to mislead people and create disorder,” the statement said.
The BJP further warned that it would not tolerate “deception, intimidation, or taking the law into their own hands,” adding that strict legal action would be taken against those involved in violence or impersonation.

The statement came amid allegations by the TMC that BJP-backed miscreants attacked and vandalised multiple Trinamool Congress offices after the results were announced. TMC leaders alleged that party offices in Mathurapur, the New Market area, and Jagatballavpur were targeted, with reports of vandalism and damage to nearby shops also emerging.
Amid the escalating political tensions, District Election Officers (DEOs) and police officials in districts including Malda, Jhargram, Paschim Medinipur, and Purba Medinipur, along with senior officials from the CAPF and district administration, held press conferences urging people to maintain peace and warning of zero tolerance towards post-poll violence.
The BJP, however, alleged that some TMC cadres were themselves setting fire to party offices in an attempt to mislead the public and security agencies amid the ongoing political unrest.
The BJP statement further said that the people of Bengal had given a “decisive mandate for change” and asserted that the incoming government would focus on restoring the rule of law, accountability, and public safety.
“There will be zero tolerance for violence, intimidation, or political masquerading. Law will prevail,” the statement added.
