On the Polling day, Tamil Nadu chief electoral officer, Archana Patnaik, IAS, Pratap Singh, special observer, visited the state control room, to review polling day operations, with round-the-clock monitoring in place to ensure a smooth, free, fair, and transparent voting process across the state.
Party-wise Electoral Battle
The DMK is contesting 164 seats, leaving 70 to allies including the Congress, and has framed the election as a contest between Tamil Nadu and the “Delhi-NDA”, targeting the BJP-led Centre. The AIADMK, contesting 169 seats and allocating 65 to allies—including 27 to the BJP—has countered by attacking the DMK over alleged dynasty politics, law and order concerns, rising debt, and issues related to drugs and the safety of women and children. Vijay-led TVK, making its electoral debut, has fielded candidates in all 234 constituencies, signalling an ambitious statewide push.
Counting of votes will take place on May 4, deciding the next government, while the current Assembly’s tenure ends on May 10. To ensure peaceful and violence-free polling, the ECI has deployed around 1,700 companies of central armed police forces across Tamil Nadu.
