With Labour Day approaching on May 1, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed senior officials across the state to remain on high alert, warning of possible attempts to trigger industrial unrest. Chairing a high-level review meeting via video conferencing, UP CM Yogi has instructed the district magistrates, senior police officers, and divisional commissioners to take all necessary preventive measures to maintain law and order, particularly in industrial zones. He emphasised that any attempt to disrupt industrial peace must be “thwarted under all circumstances.”
The alert period has been specifically noted from April 30 to May 1, which is coinciding with Labour Day. Officials have been asked to intensify their surveillance, conduct regular checks, and ensure immediate response mechanisms are in place.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister also reviewed recent incidents of violence reported in Noida and Greater Noida in Gautam Buddha Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh. According to officials, the unrest was caused by some “suspicious elements” in these areas. In response, CM Yogi Adityanath directed officials to strengthen the intelligence network, keep a close watch on large gatherings in industrial areas, and ensure early warning systems are working properly.
To curb misinformation and provocation, the Chief Minister also instructed the district administrations and police units to closely monitor social media platforms. Immediate action will be made mandatory against those spreading inflammatory or misleading content that could incite unrest or disturb communal harmony. Officials were also warned about possible attempts to create caste tensions in some areas. The administration has been told to act quickly to stop the situation from escalating.
While reviewing fuel supply, the CM Yogi asked the district officials to keep the public clearly informed about the availability of petroleum products. District magistrates have been asked to hold regular meetings with petroleum company representatives to ensure smooth distribution. Strict action has also been ordered against black marketing and hoarding, especially in districts bordering Nepal, where supply disruptions can have wider implications.
Preparations for Home Guards recruitment exam
In the same meeting, the preparations for the upcoming Home Guards recruitment examination scheduled from April 25 to 27 were also discussed. The exam, being conducted for 41,424 posts across 74 districts, will be held in two shifts.
This is the first time the exam is being conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board, so the Chief Minister asked officials to stay extra alert and work together smoothly. Newly appointed district magistrates were specifically directed to work closely with senior police officers to ensure smooth conduct of the examination.
Due to rising heat and heatwave-like conditions, UP CM Yogi ordered inspections of ammunition depots and firecracker factories to prevent any likely accidents. Officials have been told to strictly follow the safety rules. Moving on to the issue of smart electricity meters, CM Yogi informed that an expert committee has been constituted and its report will be released soon. In the meantime, electricity distribution companies have been directed to organise week-long camps at the feeder level to resolve consumer complaints promptly.
