NEW DELHI: “The opposition and the Congress have shown that they have no respect for women. All the political parties who have opposed the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, they are forgetting that the women of the 21st century is keeping an eye on all their activities and they clearly understand their intention and the women will not forgive them”, Prime Minister Narendra Modi slammed the opposition for voting against the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, the women reservation bill. The bill, which is a 131st Constitutional Amendment aims to render 33 per cent reservation to the women in Lok Sabha and the state legislative assemblies.

The bill failed to gain 2/3rd Parliamentary majority in the Lok Sabha on April 17, 2026 as the opposition parties including Congress, TMC, DMK, Samajwadi party etc. voted against the bill that apparently intended to empower women of the country by enhancing their representation and participation rate in Lok Sabha and Legislative Assemblies. “The opposition and the Congress have insulted the will of the consitution makers. There was nothing that was being snatched from anyone, it was about giving to the women of the country”, PM Modi asserted.

The objective of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam was to give the women an opportunity to represent and participate in the upcoming 2029 elections. The aim to empower the women and make them part of the development process. Nari Shakti Vandan Amendment is the need of the hour. However, Congress and their partners killed our honest endeavour. Congress, TMC, DMK Samajwadi Party are the killers of the constitution as they opposed this amendment, PM Modi slammed the opposition for thwarting an opportunity to fulfill women’s rights that is long overdue.

It was an endeavour to give power to all the states from the north, south, east or west. Congress had always opposed the Women Reservation Bill and had always created obstructions. Congress and its alliances adopted various methods to obstruct the passage of this amendment. Congress and its allies tried to mislead the nation and by opposing this amendment they have exposed themselves as being anti-women, Prime Minister further exclaimed against the misdeeds of the opposition.

“Initially, I did think that the Congress would correct its past anomalies. Unfortunately, it failed to correct its mistake. Congress party is fighting an existential battle in various states and is now dependent on various regional parties. The main reason why these political parties are obstructing this amendment is because they fear that the control of the families will slip away from them and they are feeling insecure. In the local body elections and Panchayats, the women have proved their mettle. However, the Congress and its allies debunked a similar opportunity for women in Parliament”, PM Modi affirmed.

PM Modi debunks false narratives around delimitation

Congress and its alliance partners are spreading misinformation about delimitation, and it works on the principle of divide and rule. This principle it has learnt from the British. Congress party, from day one has spread lie that certain states will lose after delimitation. From day one, the government has made it clear that this amendment will benefit all the states. However, TMC, DMK, Samajwadi Party spread lies, PM Modi said.

DMK had the opportunity to give more power to the Tamils. TMC  too had the opportunity, but they too had failed. Samajwadi Party had an opportunity to correct its image of being anti-women image. They have already forgotten the principles of Ram Manohar Lohia. Congress is an anti-reform party. Congress creates hindrances in all the positive reforms. Congress opposed, Jan-Dhan accounts, GST, triple talaq law, removal of Articles 370, digital payment, they opposed the UCC, said PM Mod thus exposed the negative politics of the opposition.

The moment, Congress hears the name of the reform, it opposes it. Congress opposes SIR, CAA. It opposes if steps are being taken to throw the illegal migrants from the country. Congress always supported the Naxals. Congress has always opposed anything which is good for Bharat. It is because of such attitude of the Congress that Bharat could not scale the heights of development. There were many nations which had gained independence with Bharat and they had developed. However, owing to the sinister plans of the Congress, the country could not develop, affirmed PM Modi.

Congress failed to address the border issues, they did not resolve the Indus Water Issue and the One Rank One Pension issue. This fight is against the anti-reform attitude of the Congress. I am confident that the women of the country will give a befitting reply to the Congress party. Some people are spreading information that it is the defeat of the NDA government. PM Modi said that he had said in the parliament that let this amendment be passed and he would give credit to the opposition, thus PM Modi exposed every illicit agenda of the opposition parties.

Today, the government could not get the requisite number to get the bill passed said PM Modi. However, he assured the nation that the government is determined to empower the women, and the opposition will not be able to defeat the confidence. The efforts will not die down and in the near future the government will get more opportunities to empower women and ensure Viksit Bharat, PM Modi promised to the nation.
