BHUBANESWAR:  In a significant breakthrough, security forces unearthed a Maoist camp deep inside the forested region of Odisha’s Nuapada district and recovered a substantial quantity of explosive materials during a planned anti-insurgency operation.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched a combing operation near Dhekunpani village under Komna police limits, located within the Sunabeda Wildlife Sanctuary. The operation was carried out with extreme caution due to the difficult terrain and the suspected presence of Maoist cadres in the area.

Officials said the security team conducted a systematic search of the dense forest, scanning for signs of insurgent activity before locating a concealed camp believed to have been used by Maoists. A detailed search of the site led to the recovery of materials suspected to be used in the fabrication of improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

The seized items included around 70 gelatine sticks, three steel containers, two injection syringes, and four bundles of electric wires. According to officials, these materials were likely intended for use in future attacks, posing a serious threat to both security personnel and civilians in the region.

The recovery once again highlights the persistent security challenges in Nuapada and adjoining forest areas, where Maoist groups continue to attempt to maintain their presence despite sustained counter-insurgency operations over the years.

No arrests have been made in connection with the operation so far. Security officials believe that Maoist cadres may have vacated the camp shortly before the forces reached the location.

Following the discovery, security has been intensified in and around the area. Additional combing operations and surveillance measures have been initiated to ensure complete clearance of insurgent elements and prevent any potential threats.

Officials reiterated that ensuring the safety of local communities remains a top priority. They added that security forces will continue their efforts to dismantle Maoist networks and restore long-term peace and stability in the region.
