The Baloch Liberation Army(BLA), which is fighting for the independence of Balochistan from Pakistan, has released a video showing an attack it claims to have carried out last month on a Pakistani military camp in the Zamuran area of Kech district. According to the group, its fighters launched a coordinated attack on March 29 from multiple directions targeting the camp. The video, published on the group’s media channel Hakkal, appears to show preparations for the operation, including a commander explaining the plan using a model and directing fighters to advance from different positions.
The footage also appears to show the use of drones to monitor and record activity at what is described as a Frontier Corps(FC) camp during the attack. The location of the camp fortification is atop a hill which commands a view of area around it for several kilometers. The BLA said that it had lost one of its fighters identified as Abdost Aziz, also known as “Almaan”, during the operation.
The BLA has referred to the operation as the “Battle of Zamuran”. In a statement, the group claimed that five Pakistani security personnel were killed and that the camp was destroyed. Several Rocket Propelled Grenades(RPGs) directed at the security camp were fired by the BLA fighters from different locations around it.
In earlier statements, the BLA had announced the establishment of a unit referred to as “Qaher”(Qazi Aero Hive Rangers), described as part of what it calls the second phase of its campaign, “Operation Herof”. According to the group’s spokesperson, Jeeyand Baloch, the unit is intended to use drone technology to target remote and sensitive locations. Meanwhile, at least two other armed groups of Baloch rebels have claimed responsibility for a series of attacks targeting Pakistani security forces and infrastructure in different areas of Balochistan, according to statements released to the media.
In a statement, Major Gwahram Baloch, spokesperson for the Balochistan Liberation Front(BLF), said the group carried out an Improvised Explosive Device(IED) attack on April 9 in the Mand area of Kech district, between Radig and Mehir at a location identified as Kudomb. He claimed the attack targeted personnel assigned to provide security to a military convoy, resulting in the death of one Pakistani soldier and injuries to several others.
The spokesperson added that in a separate incident a day earlier, BLF fighters attacked a Frontier Corps(FC) camp in the Toba area of Parom, Panjgur district. According to the statement, the attack occurred while personnel were engaged in installing a protective fence around the camp. One FC personnel was reported killed and two others injured.
The BLF also stated that a police official, identified as Deputy Superintendent of Police(DSP) Anwar Ali, had been released along with his son after previously being held in the group’s custody. According to the statement, he had been detained last month during an operation in the Karkh area of Khuzdar. The group said the release was carried out on humanitarian grounds and issued a warning to him.
In a separate development, the Baloch Republican Guards(BRG) claimed responsibility for an attack on a gas pipeline in Sibi. In a statement, spokesperson Dostain Baloch said the pipeline was targeted using explosives near Killi Nasran Chowk, in front of a DSP residence.
