Tamil Nadu: BJP releases chargesheet accusing DMK govt of corruption and anti-Hindu bias, law & order collapse

Citing Tamil Nadu’s debt burden crossing ₹10 lakh crore, BJP’s Tamil Nadu election in-charge Piyush Goyal released a “chargesheet” alleging systemic corruption, financial mismanagement, and an explicit anti-Hindu bias in the DMK government.

Ahead of the April 23 Assembly polls, the BJP unveiled the document at its state headquarters in Chennai on March 31, highlighting what it termed “massive irregularities” under the DMK regime, including over ₹1 lakh crore in state liquor marketing operations, thousands of crores in highway tenders, and widespread municipal scams. The chargesheet further claimed that the state’s financial health has collapsed under the current government.

It says crimes against SC communities have increased in Tamil Nadu. The DMK and its leaders are openly anti-Hindu.

Taking to his social media platform X, Piyush Goyal said, “Today, I released the NDA’s chargesheet against the DMK-Congress government in Tamil Nadu, highlighting various facts including deteriorating law-and-order situation, rising corruption, and several unfulfilled election promises in the state. The last 5 years have been tough on the 8 crore people of Tamil Nadu, who have had to deal with massive financial mismanagement of resources by the DMK government led by MK Stalin, making the state one of the most indebted in the country.”

The crimes against every section of society, including women, children, Dalits, Hindus, youth and farmers, have gone unchecked in the state and now this time, the people of the state will seek answers through the ballot. The NDA alliance led by Edappadi K. Palaniswami, under the guidance of PM Narendra Modi, will ensure that good governance returns to Tamil Nadu and it becomes a frontrunner in the Viksit Bharat journey.

The BJP document said that the government failed to fulfil over seventy per cent of its promises, adding that the DMK government had abandoned commitments to reduce fuel prices, provide cooking gas subsidies, and cancel the NEET examination. It accused the government of betraying women by scrapping popular welfare schemes introduced during the previous regime, such as gold for marriage and subsidised two-wheelers.

The charge sheet lists out charges of what it termed an anti-Hindu ideology. It compiled quotes attributed to prominent leaders, claiming a sustained campaign to insult the faith of the majority, referencing alleged derogatory remarks regarding Sanatana Dharma and Hindu deities.

The document alleged that DMK is against women. It blames the government’s callous attitude as the reason for criminals gaining the nerve to commit crimes against women. These elements have no faith in the rule of law, and easy escape routes have emboldened them to carry out crimes unhindered. The POCSO cases have gone up from 4,968 in 2022 to 6,969 in 2024 and are rising in 2025. These figures reveal inefficient handling by the government in curbing crimes against children, who are the next generation’s potential treasure. The numbers reveal a dangerous indication of poor handling of these crimes. Sexual-related crimes have gone up from 3,260 in 2022 to 5,319 in 2024.

The document lists instances of crimes against women, including sexual harassment of women police in front of a DMK MP Kanimozhi function, and misbehaviour with private airline women staff by DMK functionaries, showing women are not safe on land and in air. There is no safety for women from 2 years to 60 years old.

The law and order, according to the document, has worsened, saying the DMK government has failed to prevent them with an iron fist. Criminals issuing death threats to a judge in the special court premises itself shows how safe the public is. During the 5-year rule of DMK, there were 8,900 murders.

The narcotic-related crimes reached 6,852 in 2021 and have now risen to 10,385 cases, despite the DMK government mocking the drug-free Tamil Nadu promise. Drug addiction spoils health and future. On one hand opposing the drug menace, it has honoured drug mafia persons like Jafar Sadiq and Sarfras Nawas with posts in the party. During its rule, nearly 22,000 kg of ganja was seized on various occasions. There were ganja plants in government hospital premises. Illicit hooch took 68 lives in Kallakurichi and 22 in Marakanam near Villupuram. It has not initiated any action to prevent the sale and production of illicit liquor.

Goyal said, “This is a chargesheet against the corrupt DMK government of Tamil Nadu. They have committed crimes against every section of Tamil society. The DMK and Congress have built an empire of corruption in Tamil Nadu. 70% of the DMK-Congress election promises remain unfulfilled.”
