Widespread and worst sort of anomalies have been reported from Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit. The Vice Chancellor’s password was ‘stolen’ and files were signed collectively during her absence. The Save University Campaign Committee has demanded stringent action against this.
Dr K.K. Geetakumari was removed as the Vice Chancellor at 4 pm on March 5. Immediately, Dr Ciza Thomas, the Vice Chancellor of APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU), was given the additional responsibility of the Sanskrit University. Instantly, Geetakumari left the campus. But even after that, late in the evening, about 40 files were found signed after decisions and actions were taken.
Sanskrit University has been in the news quite often, of course, for the wrong reasons, like wrong admissions and faulty examinations. The latest incident is like an insult to the injury. Save University Campaign Committee stated that this is a serious impropriety. The Committee submitted a memorandum to the VC-in-charge, demanding stringent action against the culprits responsible for the ‘stealing of the password’.
“Organiser” had reported, on March 6, the sacking of Dr K.K. Geetakumari by Governor Viswanath Arlekar in his capacity as the Chancellor. It was for ignoring his (Governor’s) order to stall the Syndicate’s decision to declare a student passed despite failing in the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) examinations. SFI leader A. Kalesh failed his BFA examinations; still, the Syndicate admitted him to the MFA, the master’s, and resolved to declare that he had passed the BFA! Not only that. The expelled VC ignored some more orders of the Chancellor. They are hurried appointments of the teachers based on the five-year-old notification and the Governor’s order not to hand over six acres of the university land to a private group for constructing the cricket stadium. Syndicate took those decisions based on the VC’s agenda note that the Governor, that is the Chancellor, does not enjoy any authority to interfere in the administrative matters.
Right-thinking people feel vindicated when they hear about ‘stealing of the password’. Because they know that the CPM’s grip in the realm of academics is blatant and too unhealthy.
