Auraiya: In Uttar Pradesh’s Auraiya district, a special MP-MLA court has sentenced former Samajwadi Party MLC Kamlesh Pathak to six years of imprisonment under the Gangster Act in connection with the widely discussed Narayanpur double murder case.
Along with him, eight other accused, including his brothers Santosh Pathak and Ramu Pathak, were also convicted and awarded five years of imprisonment each. The court imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on Kamlesh Pathak and Rs 50,000 each on the other convicts. However, one of the accused, gunner Avneesh Pratap, was acquitted due to a lack of sufficient evidence.
The case is linked to the double murder that took place on March 15, 2020, in the Panchmukhi temple premises in Narayanpur locality of Auraiya. In this incident, two people were shot dead, after which 11 individuals, including Kamlesh Pathak, were named as accused.
Following the incident, police registered a case under the Gangster Act on July 11, 2020, against all the accused. During the trial, all the accused were brought to court from different jails under tight security. After the verdict was pronounced, they were sent back to jail. Of the 11 accused, one was a minor, whose case is being heard separately by the Juvenile Justice Board.
The court delivered the judgment after completing the hearing, which had already been nearing conclusion earlier but was delayed when one of the accused sought additional time to present his side. Those convicted in the case include Kamlesh Pathak, along with Santosh Pathak, Ramu Pathak, Kuldeep Awasthi, Vikalp Awasthi, Rajesh Shukla, Shivam Awasthi, Ashish Dubey, and Ravindra alias Lala Chaubey.
