MANGALURU: Serious allegations of sexual harassment, extortion, and abuse of power have surfaced against a police inspector in Dakshina Kannada, triggering outrage and prompting swift disciplinary action. The allegations against Sandesh PG, inspector at Moodbidri Police Station, have exposed what victims describe as a disturbing pattern of coercion involving money and sexual favours.
A woman complainant has alleged that the inspector threatened to implicate her husband as a rowdy-sheeter and have him arrested unless she complied with his demands. “He told me clearly—either pay Rs 25 lakh or agree to a physical relationship,” the woman alleged, adding that Rs 50,000 had already been forcibly collected from her.
A woman has filed a complaint with the Police Commissioner, making serious allegations against Moodbidri Police Inspector Sandesh in Dakshina Kannada district.

In a startling claim, the victim further alleged that the inspector justified his demands by stating he had paid Rs 50 lakh as a bribe to secure his posting. “He said he had spent huge money to get the position and needed to recover it. That is why he was pressuring us,” she claimed.
The controversy intensified after an alleged audio recording of a conversation between the inspector and a woman went viral on social media. In the clip, the officer is heard making emotionally manipulative and inappropriate remarks, including statements suggesting possessiveness and personal attachment. The audio has lent weight to accusations that multiple women were subjected to similar harassment.
Victims have alleged that women approaching the police station for help in family disputes were instead exploited. “We went seeking justice, but he turned it into something else. He demanded sexual favours instead of resolving issues,” another woman alleged.
Further accusations indicate that the inspector not only demanded money for “settlements” but also threatened arrest and used intimidation tactics. In one complaint, he is accused of assaulting a victim’s son, escalating concerns over misuse of authority.
Inspector Sandesh is also facing serious allegations of sexual harassment, with a victim claiming he behaved inappropriately not only towards her but also cast an “eye” on her daughter.
The allegations have escalated after three women jointly submitted a complaint in Bengaluru, seeking a high-level probe into the matter. The complaint has reportedly been forwarded to key authorities, including the Chief Minister, Home Minister, Director General of Police, Chief Secretary, and the Karnataka State Women’s Commission.
The victim has also released an audio clip purportedly featuring the inspector, which has since gone viral on social media. The contents of the audio have intensified public outrage and raised serious questions about conduct within the police force.
Sources indicate that the allegations and the audio evidence have embarrassed the department, prompting calls for strict action and an impartial investigation.
Taking serious note of the developments, Sudheer Kumar Reddy, Commissioner of Police, Mangaluru City, ordered immediate suspension of the officer. “Based on the preliminary report submitted by the ACP and the contents of the viral audio, disciplinary action has been initiated,” he stated.
Officials said the suspension was necessitated by prima facie evidence of misconduct, particularly the inappropriate conversation captured in the audio clip. “Such behaviour brings disrepute to the police department and cannot be tolerated,” an officer said.
However, the Commissioner also pointed out complexities in the case, noting that some complainants have ongoing legal disputes. Despite this, he emphasised that the conduct reflected in the audio warranted strict action irrespective of other factors.
“The dignity of women is non-negotiable. Any officer found misusing power or engaging in such acts will face severe consequences,” Reddy warned.
