Bhiwandi: In a major crackdown on illegal LPG storage and black marketing, a joint team from the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department raided Bhiwandi’s Kamatghar area, seizing 330 gas cylinders that were allegedly stored unlawfully for black market sale. Officials said a case is being registered against the agency owner at Narpoli Police Station.

According to officials, the operation was carried out by the Flying Squad of the Controller of Rationing and Director of Civil Supplies, Mumbai, in coordination with the Deputy Controller of Rationing, Thane Region, and the Bhiwandi Rationing Office.

Acting on specific inputs about illegal storage and black marketing of LPG cylinders belonging to a private gas agency, the joint team carried out a surprise raid at a tin-shed godown near Amidhara Building, adjacent to Oswal School in Kamatghar.

During the operation, officials discovered a large cache of LPG cylinders allegedly stored without proper authorisation. A total of 330 cylinders were confiscated, reportedly transported to the site using one truck and three tempos. Of the seized cylinders, 56 were filled while 274 were empty, officials said.

Authorities added that the stock included both domestic and commercial LPG cylinders. Preliminary findings indicate that the cylinders were being hoarded to be sold on the black market at inflated prices.

Following the seizure, one person has been detained, and a case against the agency owner is being registered at Narpoli Police Station. Further investigation into the illegal storage and sale is currently underway.

Notably, just two days ago, the Rationing Department’s Flying Squad conducted a similar raid in Bhiwandi’s Valpada area, uncovering illegal LPG storage. Officials stated that such operations will continue as part of the administration’s stringent crackdown on unlawful gas storage and black market sales in the city.
