Ghaziabad: A dispute over playing the Hanuman Chalisa on loudspeakers allegedly turned violent in Ghaziabad after three Muslim men reportedly entered a house and assaulted members of a Hindu family on March 10. Police said the accused have been arrested and a case has been registered for trespassing and physical assault.

The incident took place in the Nandgram locality, where residents claim tensions escalated after a disagreement with Muslim neighbours over devotional music being played through loudspeakers. Videos circulating on social media show injured family members describing the alleged attack and raising concerns about their safety.

Family Alleges Assault After Dispute Over Bhajan

In one of the videos, Pooja, a resident of Nandgram, alleged that the confrontation began when a neighbouring Muslim family objected to the use of loudspeakers to play the devotional song Hanuman Chalisa. According to her, the argument soon escalated into a physical attack.

“They struck my daughter with a hammer. She had come home to celebrate Holi and take care of her ailing father,” Pooja said in the video that has widely circulated online.

The family claims the accused first targeted Pooja’s husband when he stepped out of the house to buy juice from a nearby shop. They allege the attackers later entered the house and assaulted other members of the family, threatening them during the incident. The case has sparked strong reactions on social media, with several users demanding strict action from the government led by Yogi Adityanath and local authorities.

Police Register Case, Investigation Underway

Confirming the incident, Nandgram Police Station SHO Umesh Kumar said the dispute was linked to loud music and that an FIR had been registered. “The dispute was related to playing music on loudspeakers. An FIR has been registered for assault and forcefully entering the house. All three accused are in custody, and the investigating officer is examining the case,” Kumar said.

“We are now planning to sell our house because they threatened to kill me. When the police released them, they said they would come back and kill us. The police did not provide us enough protection,” Ritwik, another member of the family, said in a video shared online.

Separate Assault Incident Over DJ Music

In a separate incident reported from the same Nandgram police station area in Ghaziabad, a Hindu woman and an elderly man were allegedly assaulted following a dispute over DJ music on Ashram Road.

According to reports, the altercation began around 9 am when an argument broke out over loud DJ music. A video from the scene shows a young man allegedly attacking an elderly man who had tried to intervene, and later assaulting a woman during the confrontation. Bystanders eventually stepped in and separated the individuals involved.

Following a complaint from the victims, police registered a case and arrested two youths accused of carrying out the assault. The suspects were later produced in court and sent to jail. Authorities said a detailed investigation into the incidents is underway and that police surveillance has been increased in the area to prevent further disturbances and maintain peace. Local residents have also raised concerns about recurring conflicts in the neighbourhood, claiming some of the accused individuals have been involved in previous disputes as well. Police officials said they are monitoring the situation closely and urged residents to maintain calm while the investigation continues.
