GUWAHATI: Assam Rifles successfully intercepted and seized a huge consignment of contraband in Mizoram and arrested four drug smugglers linked with an International racket.
Based on specific intelligence received from its own sources regarding the movement of illegal Methamphetamine tablets, an operation was launched by Assam Rifles on 20 February 2026. A Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) was established in the general area of Kakichhuha village, Lawngtlai District in Mizoram.
At approximately 11:30 hours, four suspects travelling from Myanmar to India through a boat via the Koladyne River were intercepted during the operation. The boat was captured by the Assam Rifles search team.
On a thorough search of the individuals and the seized boat, approximately 80,000 Methamphetamine tablets weighing 3.952 kg were recovered.
The value of the seized contraband is approximately Rs 11.85 crores in the International market. The AR team immediately seized the Methamphetamine tablets. Four drug smugglers (3 Myanmar nationals and one Indian national) involved in the illegal transportation of drugs were apprehended on the spot. The arrested individuals have been identified as M Lairamlaina, s/o J Dangia, Age 40 years, Resident of Bungtlang, District Lawngtlai, Mizoram; Chaimoungthein, Age 17 years, Resident of Thuenainhwon, Myanmar, Thanlaing, Age 17 years, Resident of Pyuagmoung, Myanmar, Thanlaigwon, Age 15 years, Resident of Pyuagmoung, Myanmar.
The recovered Methamphetamine tablets along with the apprehended individuals have been handed over to Police Station Bungtlang, Lawngtlai District, Mizoram for further legal proceedings.
On February 18, the Assam Rifles launched a joint operation with Assam Police in Cachar district based on information of the trafficking of drugs in the district. During the operation, the team apprehended one smuggler who was transporting heroin worth Rs 4.05 Crores via Silchar Bypass near Maharpur. The joint team seized the contraband and arrested the smugglers. The apprehended individual, along with the seized vehicle, has been handed over to Cachar Police for further investigation.
