Attack on the minority Hindu community is escalating in Bangladesh under the vigilance of the Yunus administration unapologetically. Targeted violence, attack and killing of the Hindus by the radical groups of Bangladesh is scaling drastically as a state-sponsored strategy or terror under the Yunus administration with the agenda to consolidate power. In the latest testament to this embroiling political landscape of Bangladesh, a candidate who is contesting for the upcoming general elections has publicly admitted the fact that “killing Hindus” is the new “vote winning strategy” of Bangladesh.
A candidate contesting for the post of the Member of Parliament has acknowledged that Bangladesh under the interim administration led by its Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has slipped into an “age of terror”. Politicians are embarking on violence, targeted attack and other radical communal means, specifically targeting the minority Hindu community, with the ultimate motive of seeking votes and consolidating power. Communal violence, is thus the “vote winning strategy” of Bangladesh under the interim administration.
Since the ouster of the Sheikh Hasina regime in August 2024 by a violent student uprising, Dhaka has plunged into political chaos, anarchy and instability. Radical elements have gained violent wings and are illicitly targeting the innocent minority Hindu community. The interim administration under Muhumad Yunus has failed to restore law & order or political stability in the country. In fact, the interim regime has been funneling violence to fulfill their illicit hegemonic motives. As the countdown begins for the Bangladesh national elections scheduled for February 2026, the violent attacks and killing of the Hindus are escalating further with no sign of stringent action from the government. A video accessed by the News 18 media platform, depicts this fact, as an MP candidate admits violence against Hindu community as a vote winning strategy.
As per many other intelligence reports as well, targeted attack on the Hindu community is a deliberately choreographed electoral strategy to consolidate power at the helm of Dhaka. Series of evidence and inputs firmly claim that targeted attack on the Hindus in Bangladesh is not accidental, unrelated or coincidence, instead it is calculated communal violence to fetch selfish political deeds. It is a propaganda accelerated to create fear and rift among the voters. Targeted attacks on Hindus leads to a polarized and distorted society, where people live under constant fear, threat, apprehension and suspicion.
Such a fragmented society will act as a firm fabric to seek illicit hegemonic motives. With this clear agenda, communal violence is instigated in Bangladesh, exclaims many reports and political experts. The MP candidate speaking in the video accessed by the private media platform asserts that attacks on Hindus is a firm political strategy to polarize votes. The radical groups or candidates contesting in elections, if they carry out violent attacks on Hindus they are hailed as “soldiers of Islam”. Thus, their frequency to gain more votes spikes. This is a radical election strategy deeply rooted in the Islamic ethos.
The violent political strategy is purposefully crafted by the radical clerics and other local political operatives of Bangladesh to fragment the society and fuel the propaganda. Various video clips circulated in Bangladesh reflects the Islamic clerics making radical statements against the minority Hindu community. They attempt to instigate violence targeting the Hindus of Bangladesh. The videos depicts the radical leaders openely urging the masses to not cast their franchise for the Hindu or other non-Muslim candidates.
Bangladesh is currently completely distorted politically, socially and economically. The vested interests who are at the helm of Dhaka are further creating chaos to anchor anarchy and fulfill hegemonic motives. The upcoming elections will decide the political future of Bangladesh. However, with the ban of Awami League, the political party of Sheikh Hasina, with the escalating communal tensions and unhindered targeted attacks on Hindus, the fairness and transparency of the February general elections is at stake. Most importantly, the rights and lives of the minority Hindus have to be protected, for Bangladesh to be a real democracy and secular country. Radicalisation will not yield any solid or progressive results for Dhaka, instead will only destabilise the polity and economy, which is hitherto fragile. This will also dismantle the geopolitical security of the region.
