Poll-Bound Tamil Nadu: PM Modi accuses DMK of dynastic rule, corruption and misgovernance as poll heat rises

Addressing a massive public gathering at the holy town of Madhuranthagam in Chengalpattu district, Prime Minister Modi accused the DMK government of betraying the mandate given by the people and pushing the state into a cycle of misgovernance, dynastic politics and unfulfilled promises

CHENNAI: Kick-starting the NDA campaign in Tamil Nadu from the holy place of Madhuranthagam, PM Modi launched a scathing attack on DMK. He termed DMK as nothing but an amalgamation of “Corruption, Mafia and Crime” amidst applause from the audience.

Addressing a public meeting in Chengalpattu district, PM Modi alleged that the DMK government had ‘betrayed the trust of the TN people despite winning two consecutive terms (sic) with a full majority. He claimed that the state was now ready for political change.

“I see the sea of the crowd. It is an indication that people wanted to send out the most corrupt and Dynastic DMK regime. You gave them clear mandate (full majority) to them twice. But they broke the trust of the people Tamil Nadu. They had destroyed the Tamil, Tamil people and culture . They made many promises. But fulfilled nothing. Now, people are calling the DMK government a CMC government. A CMC government is one that promotes corruption, mafia, and crime, a government that thrives on wrongdoing. The people of Tamil Nadu have decided to put an end to both DMK and CMC. A BJP-NDA double-engine government is going to be formed.”

PM Modi said, “The people of Tamil Nadu have now made up their minds to uproot both DMK and CMC. Here, a BJP-NDA double-engine government is certain to come to power,” He said that the DMK lacked democratic values and accountability. PM Modi accused DMK of serving the interests of a single family rather than the wider public. He claimed that internal advancement within the party favoured dynastic connections or those willing to engage in misconduct, assertions that the DMK has previously rejected.

The enthusiasm at Madhuranthakam reflects a clear mood. Tamil Nadu wants freedom from DMK’s misgovernance. The NDA is the people’s preferred choice. https://t.co/8gUpScYWMk

PM Modi said, “The large turnout at the rally reflected public dissatisfaction with the current government, saying, “The message is that Tamil Nadu is now ready for a change. The state seeks liberation from the DMK’s misrule.  The countdown of DMK’s exit has begun.”

PM Modi and others avoided making any comments or references to actor Joseph Vijay’s TVK.  All NDA partners, like AIADMK, PMK, and others, targeted the DMK and its allies solely.  Modi, throughout his speech, referred only to the NDA and did not name any political party.

AIADMK general secretary Edapadi K Palaniswamy, who spoke before Modi, said, “We are all children raised by Amma ( Jayalalithaa), we will now function unitedly.  He said, “ DMK gave all powers to ‘useless Udhayanidhi Stalin just because he is from the Karunanidhi family. 8 crore Tamils are being exploited by one family in rule.”

As expected, Vijayakant’s DMDK did not attend, as it has been hobnobbing with DMK, bargaining for double-digit seats and one or two Rajya Sabha MPs for her (Premalatha) son and brother.

In a hard-hitting social media post on his X handle, hours ahead of Modi’s NDA rally, Chief Minister M K Stalin listed a litany of ‘betrayals’ against Tamil Nadu, including the unfulfilled promise of AIIMS Hospital in Madurai and withholding of Rs 3,458 crore for School Education under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan programme.  He said, “When will we be able to witness the eighth wonder of the world, the promised AIIMS in Madurai, being built inch by inch for the last 10 years by the Union BJP Government?” he asked the Prime Minister, “Frequenting Tamil Nadu only during election season. When will the Rs 3,458 Cr #SamagraShiksha fund be released? When will you open up your mouth and pledge that constituencies in Tamil Nadu will not get reduced in #Delimitation? When will the atrocities of the Governor, functioning like an agent of the BJP, will come to an end? When will your government, espousing duplicitous love for Tamil far exceeding that of the Tamils, will extend to legitimate funds for the Tamil language?” were some of the questions he had posed to Modi”.

Tamil Nadu counts the betrayals of NDA.

— M.K.Stalin (@mkstalin) January 23, 2026

Reacting to this, K Annamalai replied, saying the DMK government had not fulfilled even 10 per cent of its 2021 poll promises and had staged drama after drama every day. Please try to learn the politics of doing good to the people.
