Hypocrisy of Pakistan: Pledges USD 1bn to join Gaza Peace Board as the nation plunges with debt trap & economic crisis

Pakistan, a nation known for state-sponsored terrorism, violence and other illicit motives is hitherto entangled in a deep economic crisis and steep debt-trap, where repayment is a nightmare to Islamabad. However, in the biggest hypocrisy Pakistan is joining as a member of the “Gaza Peace Board”, crafted by the US President Donald Trump, by pledging USD 1 billion

When a country is renowned across the globe for state-sponsor of terrorism, known for channelizing violence and other illicit motives across the international borders, how can such a nation have a place at the international peace board. On the other hand, if a country is entangled in a severe debt trap and steep economic crisis marked with soaring inflation/cost of living crisis where the masses suffer to meet the living standards and the government struggles to repay the debt, how can such a nation lend money for international causes? But, this is the hypocrisy of Pakistan.

Pakistan is lending money to the ‘Gaza Peace Board’ crafted by the US President Donald Trump and is lending an amount of USD 1 billion by striking a place in the board. This move by Pakistan is completely antithetical to the core agenda on which Islamabad and its sovereign policies operate. Lately, Pakistan officially announced that it will join the Board of Peace initiated by the US President, which aims to accelerate a lasting peace in Gaza and aid the reconstruction & development of the region devastated due to the conflict with Israel.

Isn’t this the biggest irony? A nation known for nurturing terror outfits and bases since its formation that has led to inhuman violence in India, is now being a part of the Gaza Peace Board. Also, when the nation is struggling to overcome the economic crisis, how can it lend billions of dollars for an international cause? Pakistan is unable to repay the debt taken from the International Monetary Fund(IMF). Meanwhile, Islamabad is aiming to take a debt of USD 2.5 billion from the United Arab Emirates(UAE). Amidst such an economic chaos and cliff, Pakistan is rendering a massive USD 1 billion, to fetch a place in the Gaza Peace Board as a permanent member. This is yet another irony and hypocrisy of Pakistan.

Probably, Islamabad is aiming to set a fake narrative & white wash its domestic disintegration and loopholes. It is also aiming to construct fake narratives at the international forum by exhibiting that it advocates for peace and development, while silently supporting terrorism, violence, bloodshed and other illicit motives. The recent Pahalgam terror attack by The Resistance Front (TRF) terror group, a proxy of LeT, is the biggest testament to the double standards of Pakistan.

The Board of Peace has 8 Islamic nations and Pakistan is officially one of them. The Foreign Minister of Pakistan Isha Dar defended the decision to join the Gaza Peace Board, by claiming that the ideals and principles of Islamabad aligns with the agenda of the Peace Board curated by the US President Doanld Trump. Islamabad has complete support to implement the permanent ceasefire in Gaza, said the Foreign Minister of Pakistan. However, geopolitical analysts question how can a nation which is pleading for billions of dollars of debt relief from UAE, pledge billions of dollars for an international forum.

Pakistan is also begging for an additional tranche of loan from the IMF to overcome its massive debt burden and economic crisis. On the other hand, the masses of Pakistan are engulfed in a soaring cost of living crisis, unemployment, fragmented political order etc. The people in regions such as Balochistan, Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir(PoJK), Sindh are suffering from targeted violence against minorities, enforced disappearances etc. At such a precarious and chaotic internal scenario, Pakistan is lending money for an international peace platform, which is clearly to cover its internal fissures and build fake narratives.
