Operation Trashi-1 is the latest counter-terrorism effort by the Indian Army and other security forces in a series of efforts and operations undertaken to eliminate the terror movements in the border areas. Earlier, encounters were reported on January 7 and 13 in the Kahog and Najote forests of the Billawar area in Kathua district. On December 15, 2025, a J&K police officer was killed in an encounter with the terror groups in Soan village of the Majalta area in Udhampur district.
These counter-terrorism operations are launched to eliminate and completely uproot the terrorists said to be hidden in the interior forests of the border regions. Security forces have been highly vigilant in the forest belt of the Jammu & Kashmir region and are operating round the clock to comprehend the national security apparatus. With the Republic Day celebrations set for January 26, the security forces have been on high alert to protect the country’s security and sovereignty against infiltration by any terrorist or anti-national elements.
During the severe fighting on January 18, the JeM terror outfits opened indiscriminate firing and also threw grenades targeting the Indian Armed Forces. When the fighting escalated and became intense, additional forces from the army and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were deployed to take control of the security situation. However, as the terrorists opened massive firing, 8 security officials were injured due to the grenade blasts. The injured soldiers were immediately taken to the hospital.
‘Operation Trashi-1’ is still underway, and along with additional security troops, surveillance equipment, drones, and sniffer dogs are deployed in the vicinity to neutralise the terror movements in Kashmir. Since the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025 and the following Operation Sindoor by New Delhi, security forces are interdicting with utmost density to uproot the terror elements from the country and uplift the national security architecture.
