World largest Shivling installed at Virat Ramayan Mandir, East Champaran

New Delhi: In a eye-catching development, the world largest Shivling, weighing 210 metric tonnes was installed at the under construction Virat Ramayan Mandir complex in Kaithwalia village of East Champaran district in Bihar on Saturday, January 17.

The 33 feet tall giant Shivling made of a single block of black granite and crafted at Mahabalipuram of Tamil Nadu was installed amidst the chants of Vedic Mantras with a sea of devotees from nearby areas in attendance to witness the religiously significant moment.

Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha, Mahavir Mandir Trust Board Secretary Kunal Sayan and his MP wife Sambhavi Choudhary participated in the rituals performed on the occasion which was also attended by priests from Ayodhya and Varanasi. The site was decorated with flowers brought up from Cambodia and West Bengal.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar along with Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary also visited the premise on the occasion. CM Nitish Kumar who is in midst of his Samridhi Yatra inspected the temple construction work and gave instructions to make special arrangements for the convenience of devotees within the temple premise.

CM Nitish also instructed authorities to improve road connectivity to the temple and provide necessary facilities to the devotees arriving at the temple.

Earlier, the giant Shivling reached East Champaran district on a specially designed trailer, marking completion of a journey exceeding over 2500 km which commenced on November 21. The Shivling was built at Pattikadu village of Mahabalipuram and have 108 Sahastralingam engraved on it.

Notably, the Shiv temple at the Virat Ramayan Mandir complex is one among the total 22 temples being erected in the premise.

The Virat Ramayan Mandir being built at the site will be the world’s largest Hindu temple upon its completion. The temple project, envisioned by the then secretary of Mahavir Mandir Trust, late Acharya Kishor Kunal, a former IPS and a prominent figure in the Ram Janmabhhomi movement is expected to be completed by the year 2030.
