The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a sharp attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), alleging that political intimidation and open threats have become normalised in West Bengal, after a video purportedly showing a TMC MLA issuing violent warnings against political opponents surfaced on social media.
The video, shared on X (formerly Twitter) by BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari, allegedly features Arunabh Sen, the TMC MLA from the Bagnan Assembly constituency in Howrah district, addressing a public gathering.
In the clip, the MLA is heard making remarks that the BJP has described as an “open and explicit threat” to its leaders and workers. According to BJP leaders, Sen can be heard saying that he would ignore any restraint advised by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and warning that BJP leaders would be “beaten and buried” in 2026.
The alleged remarks are believed to have been made at a public event at a time when political rivalry in the state is intensifying ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. The video has since been widely circulated, drawing criticism from opposition leaders and fuelling allegations of rising political aggression in the state.
Reacting strongly, Bhandari said the video was evidence of what the BJP calls “Maha Jungle Raj” in West Bengal.
“Goons of ‘Maha Jungle Raj’ TMC, fearing loss, are attempting to resort to state-sponsored violence and terror. It is Bengal versus TMC Maha Jungle Raj in 2026,” Bhandari said in a post on X.
BJP Demands Action
Senior BJP leaders demanded immediate police intervention and legal action against the MLA, accusing him of promoting violence and intimidation in violation of the law. The party argued that such statements threaten the safety of political workers and undermine democratic processes.
The BJP further claimed that such rhetoric reflects desperation within the ruling party as the elections draw closer, and alleged that intimidation is being used as a political tool to retain power.
Arunabh Sen has represented the Bagnan Assembly constituency since winning the seat in the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections. A prominent TMC figure in the Howrah region, Sen is also active on social media, where he frequently defends the party’s policies and criticises the BJP and the Centre.
As of now, neither Sen nor the Trinamool Congress leadership has issued an official response or clarification regarding the video or the remarks attributed to him.
