IRAN: Iran is witnessing one of its most volatile moments in recent years as reports emerge of the elimination of a senior security commander amid nationwide protests, crippling economic distress, and unprecedented psychological pressure from external adversaries. According to information by Mossad-linked commentary and Iranian sources, Mohammad Kowsari, the Intelligence and Operations Commander of the Imam Hassan Security Unit in Kermanshah, has reportedly been eliminated in western Iran.

Kowsari was believed to be a central figure in Iran’s internal security apparatus, allegedly overseeing intelligence operations, arrests, and the suppression of anti-regime protests, particularly in Kurdish-populated regions. While independent confirmation of his death remains limited, the timing of the incident coinciding with escalating nationwide unrest has amplified its political and symbolic impact. Iranian authorities have so far remained silent, further fuelling speculation and uncertainty.

Kowsari’s elimination marks a significant setback for Iran’s domestic repression network. The Imam Hassan Security Unit has long been associated with crackdowns on dissent in western Iran, an area frequently witnessing resistance against Tehran’s authority.

The situation remains fluid, with details still emerging, but the incident underscores the growing vulnerability of Iran’s internal security commanders at a time when public anger is spilling onto the streets.

In a highly unusual and provocative move, Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad issued a direct appeal to Iranian protesters in Farsi via social media platform X. The message urged citizens to intensify mobilisations amid mounting economic hardship and political turmoil, declaring open support for demonstrators.

“Take to the streets together. The time has come. We are with you,” the Mossad message stated, adding that its support was not merely rhetorical but “also on the ground.” The statement, later echoed in Hebrew by Israeli army radio, marks one of the most direct psychological warfare efforts aimed at Iran’s domestic stability in recent memory.

The appeal comes as protests reportedly spread to at least ten universities, alongside strikes by traders and workers, reflecting a convergence of student activism, labour unrest, and business anger.

The Mossad message follows a recent meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former US President Donald Trump, after which Trump reportedly warned Tehran of renewed strikes should Iran attempt to revive its nuclear or ballistic missile programmes. Iran, which does not recognise Israel, has long accused the Jewish state of sabotage operations targeting nuclear facilities and assassinations of Iranian military, political, and scientific figures.

The current wave of unrest was ignited when shopkeepers in Tehran’s historic Grand Bazaar a powerful symbol of economic and political sentiment lowered their shutters in protest. The strike quickly spread, signalling a rare and dangerous alignment of merchant classes, students, and ordinary citizens against the state.
