NEW DELHI: Dr Ram Vilas Das Vedanti, a prominent sant of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and former BJP Member of Parliament, passed away on December 15, 2025, in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh. He was 75 years old. Widely regarded as one of the earliest and most influential spiritual leaders associated with the Ram Temple movement, Vedanti JI breathed his last while undergoing treatment after a sudden deterioration in health.

According to reports, Dr Vedanti had arrived in Rewa on December 10 to deliver Ramkatha discourses. During the religious programme, his health reportedly worsened unexpectedly. An air ambulance was arranged from Delhi to shift him for advanced medical care, but it could not land due to dense fog conditions. Despite medical efforts, he passed away during treatment. His successor, Mahant Raghavesh Das Vedanti, confirmed the details, stating that the saint’s mortal remains are currently kept at the ashram in Rewa and will soon be taken to Ayodhya.

Dr Vedanti was among the foremost saints associated with the Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas and played a crucial role in shaping and sustaining the Ram Temple movement during its most challenging phases. A disciple of Mahant Abhiram Das of Ayodhya’s Hanumangarhi, he dedicated decades of his life to the cause of Ram bhakti and the restoration of the Ram Janmabhoomi. Known for his profound scholarship in Sanskrit, Vedanti was admired for his ability to explain complex spiritual and religious concepts in simple, accessible language.

Beyond his spiritual contributions, Dr Vedanti also entered public life and served as a Member of Parliament on a BJP ticket. Despite his political role, he remained deeply rooted in religious service, residing at the Vashishth Bhavan Ashram in Ayodhya and maintaining a presence at the Hindu Dham at Naya Ghat. He consistently raised his voice for the Ram Temple cause and was often described as one of the movement’s guiding forces.
