NEW DELHI: In a significant move aimed at reducing traffic disruption during the BRICS Summit 2026, Union Ministers and Chief Ministers attending the summit are expected to abandon multiple individual VIP convoys and travel together in a single bus from Parliament to Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The arrangement reflects the Modi Government’s emphasis on ensuring that high-level official movements cause minimum inconvenience to ordinary commuters while maintaining the stringent requirements of VIP protocol.
One bus instead of multiple VIP convoys
According to sources, participating Union Ministers and Chief Ministers will assemble at Parliament before proceeding together to Bharat Mandapam, the venue of the BRICS Summit 2026. The exact time at which the leaders will assemble and depart from Parliament has not yet been finalised, while the detailed movement plan is also awaiting confirmation. The decision to consolidate their movement is designed to reduce the number of vehicles, escort teams and security convoys travelling through New Delhi during the high-security summit.

The common transportation arrangement represents a practical adjustment to traditional VIP protocol. Instead of several separate convoys requiring coordinated traffic stoppages and security arrangements, a single movement will allow traffic and security agencies to manage the route more efficiently. The initiative is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on ensuring that major government programmes and movements of senior leaders interfere as little as possible with the daily lives of citizens. By reducing multiple VIP convoys, the Modi Government is seeking to balance the security demands of a major international gathering with the everyday transportation needs of people in New Delhi.
The significance of the move becomes clearer against the wider traffic-management requirements for the BRICS Summit 2026. Delhi Traffic Police has prepared comprehensive arrangements involving diversions, regulated movement and restrictions on key routes during the summit period. The traffic authorities have also advised commuters to plan journeys in advance and allow additional travel time.

The emphasis on efficient coordination also comes as India hosts the 18th BRICS Summit 2026 in New Delhi on September 12 and 13. The summit marks India’s fourth chairship of BRICS in 2026 and is being conducted under the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.” The theme places development, sustainability, innovation and institutional effectiveness at the centre of India’s BRICS agenda while highlighting the aspirations of the Global South.
