The UMEED Central Portal for the management of Waqf properties in India, launched by the Union Minister of Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju on 6 June 2025, officially closed for uploads on 6 December 2025 (Saturday), completing its six-month window as mandated under the UMEED Act, 1995 and in line with directions of the Supreme Court of India.

The nationwide digital exercise concluded with a substantial surge in activity during the final hours, driven by a series of review meetings, training workshops, and high-level interventions, including those at the Secretary level. This intensified push ensured that states and Union Territories accelerated the pace of uploads before the deadline.

According to official data, 5,17,040 Waqf properties were initiated on the portal, forming the total submission universe. Of these, 2,16,905 properties received approval from designated authorities, marking them as fully verified and digitally validated. A further 2,13,941 properties were submitted by makers but remain pending in the pipeline as the deadline passed, awaiting verification and approval. Additionally, 10,869 properties were rejected during the verification process after scrutiny by authorised reviewers.

To support this large-scale national assignment, the Ministry of Minority Affairs conducted continuous workshops and training sessions involving State and UT Waqf Boards and Minority Departments. A two-day Master Trainer Workshop in Delhi provided hands-on training to equip officials for the uploading and compliance process. Senior technical and administrative teams were deployed across states, seven zonal meetings were held nationwide, and a dedicated helpline operated from the Ministry office to resolve issues arising during uploads.

Waqf Progress Report

Since the portal’s launch, Dr Chandra Shekhar Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Minority Affairs, conducted more than 20 review meetings, consistently guiding, monitoring, and motivating States and UTs to ensure accurate and timely data submission. With the closure of this phase, the UMEED framework marks a pivotal milestone in enhancing transparency, efficiency, and unified digital governance of Waqf properties across India.
