In 2025, Datta Jayanti will be celebrated with great enthusiasm on, December 4, coinciding with the Purnima Tithi of the Margashirsha month. The Full Moon period begins at 8:37 AM on December 4 and ends at 4:43 AM on December 5, a window considered highly potent for spiritual practices, charity, and divine worship.

Who is Bhagwan Dattatreya? The embodiment of Trideva

According to Hindu scriptures, Bhagwan Dattatreya born to Sage Atri and Mata Anasuya is revered as the personification of the entire cosmic trio:

  • Brahma (creation)
  • Vishnu (preservation)
  • Mahesh/Shiva (destruction and transformation)

His birth on the Margashirsha Purnima marks a divine convergence of energies believed to accelerate spiritual progress. Devotees believe that worshipping Bhagwan Dattatreya on this day is equivalent to worshipping the Trimurti themselves, yielding immense blessings, removal of obstacles, and liberation from karmic burdens.

The scriptures also highlight Dattatreya’s legendary 24 gurus, from whom he derived deep spiritual wisdom an embodiment of humility and universal learning.

Why Datta Jayanti Matters: Spiritual Significance

Traditionally, this Jayanti is considered a pathway to enlightenment and purification. Ritual bathing in holy rivers especially the Ganga and performing Tarpana for ancestors are believed to free devotees from sins of past births and bestow peace upon the lineage.
