The makers have released new viewership figures revealing that a 14-year-old devotional video has become the first and only Indian upload to surpass 5 billion views on YouTube. While other top Indian videos have yet to cross the 2-billion mark, Shri Hanuman Chalisa stands unrivalled as the most-watched Indian video of all time.

Originally released on May 10, 2011, the Shri Hanuman Chalisa video, featuring the late Gulshan Kumar of T-Series, has amassed more than 5,006,713,956 views over 14 years. Sung by Hariharan and composed by Lalit Sen, it has now secured a place among the most-viewed videos globally.

Bhushan Kumar, Managing Director of T-Series, expressed his gratitude, saying: “Hanuman Chalisa holds a deeply special place in the hearts of millions, including my own. My father, Shri Gulshan Kumar ji, dedicated his life to bringing spiritual music into every home, and this milestone is a testament to his vision. Surpassing 5 billion views and ranking among YouTube’s top 10 most-viewed videos of all time is more than a digital accomplishment, it reflects the enduring devotion of people across this country.”

No other Indian release comes close to the viewership of Shri Hanuman Chalisa. The next most-watched video is the Punjabi track Lehenga, with 1.8 billion views. It is followed by the Haryanvi hit 52 Gaj Ka Daman and the Tamil chartbuster Rowdy Baby, both at 1.7 billion views. Other Indian videos ranking high on the list include Zaroori Tha, Vaaste, Laung Laachi, Lut Gaye, Dilbar, and Bum Bum Bole.

Globally, the leaderboard is dominated by videos like Baby Shark Dance (16.38 billion views), Despacito (8.85 billion), Wheels on the Bus (8.16 billion), Bath Song (7.28 billion), and Johny Johny Yes Papa (7.12 billion). This places Shri Hanuman Chalisa in an elite global league of the world’s most-watched videos.
