The Karnataka BJP has strongly condemned the Congress government’s recent move to allocate Rs 67 crore for the construction of Muslim community halls, terming it a blatant case of vote-bank politics and misuse of public funds. The opposition has questioned Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s priorities, highlighting the stark contrast between the government’s largesse for minority appeasement and the neglect of essential public welfare, particularly in North Karnataka.

Central BJP leaders and state spokespersons slammed the Congress government for continuing its pattern of selective welfare. “In the past, the Siddaramaiah-led Congress implemented schemes such as Shaadi Bhagya and Shaadi Mahal, exclusively for minority communities. Today, the government is again willing to spend crores on Muslim community halls while ignoring pressing needs like farmer relief, road repairs, and public health,” BJP leader R Ashok alleged.
The opposition stressed that the state government’s actions undermine the constitutional principle of equality. “Allocating Rs 67 crore to satisfy a single community while leaving North Karnataka farmers without assistance is nothing but appeasement politics. Public funds must serve the welfare of all citizens, not a politically convenient minority,” R Ashok added.
BJP leaders pointed out that farmers in North Karnataka, despite repeatedly seeking government relief, have been largely ignored. “While the government is eager to distribute crores for religious or community structures, distressed farmers who depend on timely aid for survival have received nothing. This selective generosity is both morally and constitutionally wrong,” the leader added.
Former BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil also condemned the move, highlighting the incongruity of funding cultural and religious activities for a community in which, according to him, many traditional practices such as dance, art, music, and poetry are often restricted. “The government must clarify what it considers ‘cultural activities’ if these are being funded for communities that themselves restrict such practices. Meanwhile, government schools lack basic facilities, roads are full of potholes, and farmers remain uncompensated,” he said.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi also criticised the Congress government, stating that the trend of appeasement politics must end. “The Chief Minister has shown extraordinary generosity for a single community while ignoring public health, infrastructure, and the needs of other communities. This approach is divisive and unacceptable,” he said, urging the government to prioritise equitable development.
BJP leaders noted that such selective allocations risk deepening social divides. “Government funds should reflect the needs of the entire state, ensuring infrastructure, health, education, and agricultural support reach every citizen. Prioritising appeasement schemes for one community undermines the state’s social cohesion and fuels resentment,” they said.
The opposition has called on the state government to redirect public funds toward projects that benefit all citizens and ensure equitable resource distribution. “This is not about denying assistance to any group but about fairness. Taxpayer money should not be used to reward one community while leaving others behind,” a BJP source said.
The party also warned that the Congress government’s continued focus on appeasement politics could have electoral consequences. Citizens, they argue, are increasingly aware of the discrepancy between government spending and actual developmental outcomes. “If the government continues to prioritise vote-bank schemes over genuine welfare, public trust will erode, and the electorate will respond accordingly in the next election,” BJP sources added.
