Yet another shocking case from Madhya Pradesh’s capital has sent shockwaves through the modelling community and social media alike. The body of 21-year-old model Khushboo Ahirwar, originally from Sagar district, was found under mysterious circumstances with multiple injuries and bruises across her body. Her live-in partner, identified as 27-year-old Qasim Ahmed, who introduced himself to Khushboo earlier as “Rahul,” has been taken into police custody for interrogation.
According to initial reports, Khushboo was discovered in a critical state, wrapped in a white sheet, and brought to a private hospital near Bhainsakhedi on Indore Road, where doctors declared her dead upon arrival. Police were immediately informed and later transferred her body to Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal, for a post-mortem conducted under magisterial supervision.
Speaking to reporters outside the hospital, Laxmi Ahirwar, the victim’s mother, broke down in tears, alleging that her daughter was tortured to death. “Her entire body was bruised, her face swollen, and there were visible injuries on her private parts. My daughter has been murdered brutally,” she said.
Family members further claimed that Khushboo had met Qasim a few months ago and had been in a relationship with him. However, they alleged that Qasim was pressuring her for religious conversion and marriage. “This is not a love affair gone wrong. This is a case of coercion and violence,” the family insisted.
Khushboo’s sister echoed the same suspicion, saying, “We believe more than one person was involved. She was fit and strong, no single person could have done this to her. We want justice for Khushboo.”
Police sources quoted in media confirmed that the autopsy revealed deep wounds and severe injuries, including belt marks on the waist, bruises on the face, and swelling on several parts of the body. Officers stated that sexual assault and homicide are both being investigated as potential motives.
A senior police official from Khajuri police station said, “The investigation is ongoing. We are waiting for the detailed post-mortem and forensic report. The accused has been detained and is being interrogated.”
Police are also examining CCTV footage, mobile location data, and call records to piece together the final hours before Khushboo’s death.
According to family, Khushboo and Qasim had recently visited Ujjain. Before leaving, Qasim reportedly told Khushboo’s mother, “Don’t worry, we will return soon.” However, what followed was a tragedy that left the family shattered.
The family claims that after the Ujjain trip, Qasim brought Khushboo back to Bhopal in a critical condition and left her at the hospital before fleeing the scene. Police launched a manhunt and later detained Qasim for questioning.
Known online by her Instagram handle @DiamondGirl, Khushboo was a rising model in Bhopal’s fashion circuit, balancing small modelling assignments with part-time jobs. A college dropout from her BA course, she had been living in Bhopal for the past three years, chasing her dream of becoming a successful model.
Friends and colleagues described her as “ambitious, confident, and full of life.” Her social media profiles, filled with photoshoots and motivational captions, had recently started gaining attention.
The Ahirwar family has demanded a fair and transparent investigation, urging authorities to ensure that no influential hand shields the accused. “We have lost our daughter in the most horrific way. We only want justice,” her mother said, appealing to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Home Minister Narottam Mishra to personally monitor the case.
Activists and women’s organisations have also demanded that the state government treat this case as one of gender-based violence and religious coercion, calling for stronger safeguards for women working independently in urban centres.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of IPC for murder, assault, and possible sexual offence. The investigation continues under Khajuri police station, with officers awaiting forensic confirmation of the cause of death.
As the state reels from this tragic death, Khushboo’s story, that of a small-town girl who came to the city chasing dreams but met a brutal end, raises urgent questions about women’s safety, predatory relationships, and religious exploitation.
