Guwahati: The eviction against illegal encroachment in forest land by Bangladesh origin Miya-Muslims to restart in Assam from November 9. Informing this on social media CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said, a section of people wanted to create a Nepal like unrest in Assam exploiting the emotions of people due to the death of beloved singer Zubeen Garg. They thought that this way they will be able to put pressure on the government so that it can’t further continue the eviction drives. “But, I am sorry, I couldn’t satisfy you. The eviction drives continued from November 9 in Dohikota reserve forest in Goalpara district.”, CM Sarma said.
The forest department along with district administration and police will start an eviction drive in Dohikota reserve forest to clear encroachment on 1,143 bighas of forest land. The eviction notice has been served to over 300 Bangladeshi origin Muslim families to evict the forest land before November 9. Many illegal settlers have left the forest land after receiving the eviction notice. The Dohikota reserve forest is an elephant inhabitant area. But after huge encroachment by illegal settlers the wild elephants are facing a huge challenge for their areas and as a result the human-elephant conflicts are increasing rapidly in Goalpara district.
It should be mentioned that a section of people wanted to create unrest in Assam after the sad demise of singer Zubeen Garg. In the name of seeking justice for the singer the section tried to create unrest in many parts of the state. Police and media were attacked and vehicles were set ablaze in front of Baksa district jail on 15 October.
Over 25 people were injured in the violence which was instigated via WhatsApp accounts from Bangalore. 11 miscreants were arrested by police following the incident. Senior Police Superintendent if Baksa Ujjal Pratim Baruah said that WhatsApp account runs from Bangalore incited the violence and instructed miscreants for stone pelting on police and media. 9 out of 11 arrested miscreants were Muslims and not from the locality.
One miscreant arrested by police confessed in front of camera that he never heard any song of Zubeen Garg and doesn’t even know what happened to him. But he was in the front row of the mob who was shouting justice for Zubeen and attacking police and media. CM Sarma said that a particular section who was creating these unrest wanted to put pressure on the government so that it couldn’t restart the eviction drives.
