New Delhi: In another success for security forces, a 30-year old female Maoist carrying a significant bounty on her head has laid down weapon before police in Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai of Chhattisgarh on November 6.
Kamla Sodi alias Taruna alias Unga was a member of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) since 2011 and carrying a bounty of Rs 17 lakh on her head as announced by the Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh (MP) government.
Sodi was a hardcore cadre of the group and involved in various unlawful activities. She has been associated with the Maad division and the Madhya Pradesh-Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh (MCC) of the banned group.
A resident of Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, Sodi was active largely in the bordering areas of Chhattisgarh, touching MP and Maharashtra.
She was inspired by the Surrender cum Victim Rehabilitation policy of the state government and provided with immediate assistance of Rs 50000 upon joining the mainstream.
Notably, a 22-year-old female Maoist carrying a reward of Rs 14 lakh had also surrendered before the police in MP’s Balaghat district.
The surrendered Naxal was identified as Sunita, a resident of Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district who had reportedly joined the Maoist’s outfit in the year 2022 and was notorious in the bordering region of Chhattisgarh and MP.
She however decided to lay down weapons and surrendered in presence of Balaghat Superintendent of Police (SP) Aditya Mishra, on Monday. At 22 years old, she was reportedly the youngest Maoist to carry such a significant bounty on her head.
Sunita was a member of Malajkhand-Darrekasa Dalam of the Maoist’s MCC zone. After giving up arms, she expressed full faith in the Bharatiya constitution and policies of the state government.

According to police, this was the first time that a Maoist has surrender with arms under Madhya Pradesh Surrender, Rehabilitation cum Relief policy 2023.
