New Delhi: In a significant development, a 22-year-old female Maoist carrying a reward of Rs 14 lakh has surrendered before the police in Madhya Pradesh’s (MP) Balaghat district.

Sunita, a resident of Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district had reportedly joined the Maoist’s outfit in the year 2022 and was notorious in the bordering region of Chhattisgarh and MP.

Upon joining the banned group, Sunita was brainwashed and later put into a six-month-long training program after which she was deployed in the security team of a senior Maoist’s central committee member.

She however decided to lay down weapons and reached the Chauriya security camps. She later surrendered arms in presence of Balaghat Superintendent of Police (SP) Aditya Mishra, on Monday. At 22 years old, she was reportedly the youngest Maoist to carry such a significant bounty on her head.

Sunita was a member of Malajkhand-Darrekasa Dalam of the Maoist’s Madhya Pradesh-Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh (MCC) zone. After giving up arms, she expressed full faith in the Bharatiya constitution and policies of the state government.

#WATCH | Sunita, once a dreaded and the youngest Maoist carrying a bounty of Rs 14 lakh in Balaghat, has surrendered herself.

At first glance, she looks innocent and far younger than one would imagine for someone involved in such violent activities.

According to police, this was the first time that a Maoist has surrender with arms under Madhya Pradesh Surrender, Rehabilitation cum Relief policy 2023. As per details, Sunita would receive benefits up to 39 lakhs.

Reacting to the development, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav in a post on X praises the police. The CM also made an appeal to Naxals that they should either surrender arms or ready to face police action.

Maoist’s weapon making factory busted in Chhattisgarh

In a related development, security forces have busted a weapon making factory of Maoists in Chhattisgarh insurgency-hit Sukma district.

As per reports, a team of District Reserve Guards (DRG) during a search operation unearthed a cache of weapons including 17 rifles, BGL launchers, gun barrels, drill machines and other materials which were reportedly being used to produce country-made weapons.

It is to be noted that security forces have intensified campaign in Naxal-hit areas across multiple states with an aim to eliminate Maoist insurgency by March next year.
