Delhi’s Kartavya Path will come alive with the glow of two lakh earthen lamps on October 18 and 19, as the newly elected BJP government prepares to celebrate Deepawali with grandeur. The festivities will include a spectacular Ramayana-themed laser and drone show, echoing the scale and spirit of Ayodhya’s renowned Deepotsav.
Officials have confirmed that the celebration is inspired by Ayodhya’s annual Deepawali festivities, which over the past eight years have gained global recognition for lighting record-breaking numbers of diyas along the Saryu River and at historic temples.
“The Kartavya Path will be illuminated with two lakh diyas each evening. A themed laser and drone show based on the Ramayana will accompany the celebrations,” said an official.
The event is set to be attended by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, along with her cabinet ministers, MLAs, and BJP MPs, marking the first major festival since the BJP returned to power in the capital after more than 26 years, with a two-thirds majority in February.
“This celebration is not just about lights, but about spreading joy and unity. Kartavya Path will shine brightly, showcasing the essence of Diwali,” the official added.
In preparation for the festival, the Delhi government has issued comprehensive directives to all departments to ensure that the city remains clean, safe, and vibrant during the Deepawali season.
Delhi Chief Secretary Rajeev Verma has instructed officials across local bodies, the Electricity Department, and the Public Works Department to ensure all streetlights are operational in markets, residential areas, religious places, and public spaces, ensuring a well-lit and welcoming atmosphere throughout the city.
Municipal authorities have also been tasked with maintaining smooth traffic flow, cleanliness, and a festive environment to allow residents and visitors to celebrate Deepawali without inconvenience.
