Congress leader Dr Jinto John has reportedly attended a ‘Palestinian Solidarity’ event organised by the Students Islamic Organisation (SIO), an outfit known for its sympathies towards terrorism. Reports suggest that Jinto John, Vice President of the Ernakulam District Congress Committee (DCC), participated in an SIO-organised programme on 7 October at Fort Kochi.
The programme was titled “Pratirodhathinte Pralayam” (“The Flood of Resistance” in English). It was part of a series commemorating two years of Toofanul Aqsa and focused on expressing solidarity with Palestine. Toofanul Aqsa was the operation carried out by Palestinians in Israel. The programme was attended by local activists and supporters, with one speaker after another highlighting “the struggles” in Palestine.
In October 2024, the SIO mourned terrorists and organised a Mayyath Niskaram (funeral prayer) for Yahya Sinwar, the slain Hamas leader, in Kerala — an event that shocked the entire state. Sinwar was killed by Israeli forces for his role as the mastermind behind the 7 October attack, which claimed the lives of 1,200 innocent Israeli civilians. The prayer was organised by the Students Islamic Organisation (SIO), the youth wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, a group known for its Islamic activism. Photos of the event were widely circulated on social media, featuring Samad Kunnakav, Assistant Secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami Kerala, leading the prayer.
The recent programme was also part of the “Infaaq Week” campaign by SIO of India, which ran from 3 October 2025. The SIO’s Ernakulam Facebook page reportedly publicised the event, depicting Sinwar as a “valiant warrior”.
According to reports, in August 2024, the Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) displayed banners and standees in Kozhikode in remembrance of Hamas terrorist leader Ismail Haniyeh, just weeks after his death. The organisation also used social media platforms to call upon Muslim youths in Kerala to unite in support of Hamas and the Palestinian cause.
It is indeed shocking that a Congress leader attended and justified events conducted by an organisation that openly supports mass murder, celebrates terror, and mourns the deaths of terrorists.
