Guwahati: Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sandeepan Garg, cousin brother of singer Zubeen Garg has been arrested by Assam police SIT in connection with the mysterious death of the popular singer in Singapore on September 19. DSP Garg was in Singapore along with Zubeen on September 19 when the popular singer died while swimming in sea. Many theories have come up regarding the death of Zubeen, but the arrest of his cousin brother who is also a police officer has taken a new turn in the investigation of the sensational case.

DSP Sandeepan was quizzed for 6 days by the SIT before his arrest on October 8. He was produced in a local court and the court has sent hom to 7 days police custody. Zubeen Garg’s arrested bandmate Shekhar Goswami has earlier said in his statement to SIT that the popular singer was poisoned by his manager Sidharth Sharma and organiser of NE Festival in Singapore Shyamkanu Mahanta. SIT has questioned over 20 people in this case and arrested 5 persons including one female co-singer who was also in Singapore when Garg died tragically. Earlier, His manager Shidharth Sharma, bandmate Shekhar Goswami, co-singer Amritprabha Mahanta and organiser of Northeast Festival in Singapore Shyamkanu Mahanta were arrested by the SIT. All of them are currently in CID custody.

Meanwhile, Assam politics has been hit up ever since the death of the popular singer. Opposition parties are targeting the ruling BJP alleging lack of clarity in the investigation. But CM has reiterated that the investigation is on and the BJP government will give justice to the beloved singer of Assam. The CM also said that FIR will be lodged against state Congress president and MP Gaurav Gogoi for his provocative comment to create violence in the state.

Special DGP of CID Munna Prasad Gupta informed the media that one NIR Rupkamal Kalita who was in the yacht during the death of Zubeen Garg is being interrogated by the SIT for the second consecutive day. 8 NRIs who lived in Singapore and were with singer Zubeen Garg during the tragic incident have been summoned by the SIT to appear before the investigating team. But so far only one person has appeared before the SIT so far.
