A planted explosive device detonated on the railway tracks, causing multiple coaches of the train, en route to Quetta, to derail. Initial rescue efforts have confirmed several injuries, though the full scale of damage and casualties is still being assessed. Security forces and rescue teams are on the scene, providing medical aid and investigating the source of the explosion.
This latest incident highlights ongoing security concerns in the region, as the Jaffar Express has faced repeated attacks in recent months. In August 2025, an improvised explosive device (IED) derailed six of its coaches in Balochistan’s Mastung district. That blast caused minor injuries to several passengers and temporarily disrupted train services.
In March 2025, militants from the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) hijacked the Jaffar Express in the Bolan Pass, taking over 400 passengers hostage in a tense and prolonged standoff. The attackers used explosives to damage the railway track, and heavy gunfire ensued. The confrontation resulted in casualties among both the hostages and security forces before the situation was eventually brought under control.
Balochistan continues to grapple with instability, as separatist groups frequently target infrastructure, security personnel, and transportation networks. The repeated attacks on the Jaffar Express underscore growing concerns over passenger safety and the fragile security situation, particularly in the border areas between Sindh and Balochistan.
