Bihar: Renowned folk singer Maithili Thakur likely to contest state assembly polls

Patna: Renowned folk singer of Bihar, Maithili Thakur is likely to contest the upcoming assembly polls in Bihar which are scheduled to be held next month.

Interacting with media, Maithili who recently met with a few senior leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party [BJP] said that “I am too watching all these speculation on television, if given an opportunity, I would like to go and begin from my village region as I have a special bond with my hometown, also It will be much easier for me to understand and learn from people there.

The folk singer though cautioned that there is no official announcement yet on her contesting the election and she is just looking forward to the development at the moment.

Talking about her recent meeting with Union Minister Nityanand Rai and BJP Bihar election in-charge Vinod Tawde, Maithili said that she recently visited Bihar where she got an opportunity to met with Union Minister Rai and Vinod Tawde and they had discussion on Bihar.

“I met them, we talked a lot about Bihar’s future and about what is happening in the state, let’s see, there is no official announcement yet, let us see what comes up ahead,” said Maitiali.

Earlier, the folk singer in a post on X on October 5 had also shared the pictures of her meeting with the BJP leaders. “Every conversation with people who dream big for Bihar reminds me of the power of service and vision. Honoured and grateful from the heart,” wrote Maithili.

Meanwhile, sharing the picture of the same meeting, BJP leader Tawde in his post on X informed that the family of the renowned singer had left Bihar in 1995 during Lalu Prasad Yadav’s rule, and now the daughter of the same family wants to return to Bihar after seeing the progress of the state.

“The family that left Bihar when Lalu Raj came to power in Bihar in the year 1995, the daughter of that family, the renowned singer Maithili Thakur ji, wants to return to Bihar, seeing the pace of changing Bihar,” said Tawde.

वर्ष 1995 में बिहार में लालू राज आने पर जो परिवार बिहार छोड़कर चले गए, उस परिवार की बिटिया सुप्रसिद्ध गायिका मैथिली ठाकुर जी बदलते बिहार की रफ्तार को देखकर फिर से बिहार आना चाहती हैं।

He added that “Today, Union Minister of State for Home @nityanandraibjp ji and I urged her that for the people of Bihar and for the development of Bihar, her contribution is expected by the common man of Bihar and that she fulfil their expectations. Best wishes to ‘Bihar’s daughter’ Maithili Thakur Ji.”

If sources are to believed, the singer from Bihar’s Mithilanchal region may contest the upcoming elections from Alinagar constituency of Darbhanga.

Elections are scheduled to be held in the state in two phases with polling scheduled for November 6 and 11. The counting of votes according to ECI, will take place on November 14.

The polls for 243 assembly seats in Bihar is likely to witness a close contest between the ruling BJP-JDU led NDA and Congress-RJD led Mahagathbandhan.
