The countdown to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday on September 17 has coincided with one of the most significant economic reforms in recent years, GST rationalisation. The reform fulfils the promise Modi made during his Independence Day address from the Red Fort. According to sources, the Prime Minister personally pushed for the revision and even told Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman after GST Council approval: “Good…kaam ho gaya, the work is done.”
The move has earned India praise from international rating agencies. Fitch, S&P, and Moody’s have all projected GDP growth exceeding 6.5 percent, while the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has given an even more optimistic estimate of 7.5 percent.
