Arpit, son of AAP leader Vikas Sharma sparks row as he praises violent Nepal protests, asks Indian youth to follow suit

Arpit Sharma, son of AAP leader Vikas Sharma and a known Congress troll, has sparked outrage after glorifying Nepal’s violent protests and urging Indian youth to replicate the chaos. His remarks come amid deadly unrest in Nepal that has left dozens dead and hundreds injured

Violent protests in neighbouring Nepal have paralysed the entire country over the past two days, following a wave of arson, vandalism, and deadly unrest. Sparked by a so-called ‘Gen Z’-led anti-corruption movement that spiralled out of control, the Himalayan nation is now facing a total breakdown of law and order. Public and private properties have been torched, politicians attacked and even killed, and chaos reigns across the streets.

Disturbingly, certain elements in India appear to be inspired by the turmoil, with some expressing a dangerous desire to see similar unrest unfold at home.

One such individual is Arpit Sharma, reportedly the son of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Vikas Sharma. Arpit has expressed admiration for the actions of the protestors in Nepal, who, during the two days of violent unrest on September 8 and 9, stormed and vandalised key government institutions, including the Parliament and the Supreme Court, and even went so far as to chase, assault, and kill several Nepalese politicians and ministers.

Arpit Sharma, a well-known Congress-affiliated troll, posted a video on X praising the ‘courageous’ young Nepali protestors. In the video, he lauded their aggressive march through the streets, during which they vandalised and destroyed everything in their path.

A starry-eyed Sharma applauded Nepal’s Gen Z for boldly rising up against corruption in their country. However, he expressed disappointment that Indian youth lacked the “courage,” as he put it, to stage similar violent uprisings against the Indian government.

In his video, Sharma went a step further, urging Indian youth to take inspiration from Nepal’s violent uprising. He floated provocative ideas—including echoing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s debunked “Vote Chori” narrative, as a rallying point to mobilise similar unrest in India. Sharma claimed that India’s 60 crore young voters have the power to “shake the country’s power structure.” His father, Vikas Sharma, had contested the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections on an Aam Aadmi Party ticket but failed to secure a win.

Meanwhile, Nepal has been engulfed in chaos for the past two days following a government-imposed social media ban, which triggered widespread protests. Demonstrators set fire to government buildings, political offices, and the homes of ministers. Reports indicate that at least 22 people have lost their lives, and over 300 have been injured in the violence.

Tragedy struck when the wife of former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal succumbed to burn injuries after protestors torched their residence. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli resigned after protestors burned down his home as well. The situation was finally brought under control after the Nepalese Army intervened, imposed curfews in several areas, and pushed back the demonstrators.
