New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 7 extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Indian men’s hockey team after their emphatic 4-1 victory over defending champions South Korea.

In a post on X, PM Modi said, “Congratulations to our Men’s Hockey Team for their splendid win in the Asia Cup 2025 held in Rajgir, Bihar. This win is even more special because they have defeated the defending champions, South Korea! This is a proud moment for Indian hockey and Indian sports. May our players continue to scale even greater heights and bring more glory to the nation!”

The Indian Men’s Hockey Team clinched the Men’s Asia Cup Rajgir Bihar 2025 title as they registered a comfortable 4-1 win over defending champions Korea at the Rajgir Hockey Stadium on September 7.

India lifted the Asia Cup trophy after a long gap of eight years, and with this victory, the Harmanpreet Singh-led side qualified for the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026.

The scorers for Team India are Sukhjeet Singh in Q1, Dilpreet scored 2 in Q3 and Q4, and Amit scored the finisher in Q4.

Earlier on Saturday, the Indian Men’s Hockey Team enjoyed a comfortable 7-0 win over China, in their third Super 4s game at the Rajgir Hockey Stadium, in the Men’s Asia Cup Rajgir Bihar 2025.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar too congratulated the Indian hockey team for winning the title in Rajgir. The CM also thanked the authorities for successfully organsing the prestigious tournament.

Taking to X, CM Nitish Kumar said “A glorious victory for India! Heartiest congratulations to Team India on their spectacular victory over Korea in the Hero Asia Cup 2025, held at the State Sports Academy-cum-Bihar Sports University campus in Rajgir. This glorious win has once again made the nation proud.”

“I extend my deepest gratitude to all the participating players for showcasing their exceptional skill, spirit and sportsmanship. The Government of Bihar took every measure to provide best possible facilities, ensuring the comfort of all teams. I believe all the players will carry back cherished memories of Bihar’s warmth and hospitality,” said CM Kumar

“My special appreciation to Hockey India, the Department of Sports and the Bihar State Sports Authority for organizing such a great tournament. The warmth and support of the people of Bihar not only lifted the morale of every team but also won global admiration. Such events will serve as a catalyst in nurturing a vibrant sporting culture in Bihar and inspire the young talents, ” added the post.

Meanwhile Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary said the victory reflected Bihar’s growing role in hosting major sporting events. “This is a moment of pride for Bihar. Three major competitions were held in Bihar. India emerged victorious in all three. I thank Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the country’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This is a moment of pride for Bihar,” he remarked in Rajgir.

The prestigious tournament, held in Rajgir from August 29 to September 7, featured top hockey teams from India, China, Japan, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia, Korea, Oman and Bangladesh.
