Bihar: Four policemen injured after clash with villagers in Hajipur

The police team who had arrived on the spot following a dispute during a local fair came under attack by villagers, resulting in injuries to police personnel

Patna: At least four policemen have sustained injuries after a violent mob launched an attack on a police team who had arrived at Kalyanpur village of Hajipur following a dispute during a local fair.

The incident took place on late Friday evening after a dispute arose between a vendor and a group of people, prompting the vendor to call the police.

When a police team reached the spot, they were attacked by a group of villagers, resulting in injuries to a number of police personnel. Acting on swiftly, the officials dispatched additional police teams to the spot, though the agitated villagers continued the attack.

“Last evening at around 9 PM, a dispute occurred in Kalyanpur village during a local fair… The vendor called the police, but the situation worsened as villagers attacked the police upon their arrival. Additional police teams were deployed, but the agitated villagers continued their assault, resulting in injuries to four police officers,” said DSP Abu Zafar Imam.

The police eventually succeeded in taking control of the situation and subsequently registered an FIR against 60 people including a few named individuals.

Adequate deployment of police personnel was made while the injured police personnel were rushed to medical care where they are currently being treated. The matter is being probed further by the authorities.

“Reinforcements and officers were subsequently dispatched from the police headquarters to control the situation, which is now under control. Medical treatment is being provided to the injured officers, and a FIR has been registered against sixty individuals, with several others named. The investigation is ongoing,” added the DSP.

In a related incident reported from Jamui, another police team came under attack by villagers, following a police raid in Kaduatari village under the jurisdiction of Barhat police station limit.

The police team comprising of 10 personnel including a female official was attacked by villagers after the team raided the village following inputs of illegal liquor sale.

An FIR was lodged under relevant sections after which the police arrested 13 individuals including 6 women. The accused were produced before the court from where they have been sent in judicial remand.
