Patna: A five-hour Bandh was observed in the poll bound State of Bihar on September 4, over the derogatory remarks made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late mother at a Mahagathbandhan event in Bihar.

Shops were closed while traffic was halted in morning as part of the five-hours [7a.m  to 12 p.m] shutdown called by the National Democratic Alliance [NDA] with BJP workers staging protest at several places including Gaya, Danapur, Muzaffarpur, Gopalganj, Hajipur, Araria, Katihar, Purnea, Aurangabad, Banka etc.

Women workers of the NDA parties also staged a strong protest in State’s capital Patna. Essential services, including emergency facilities and rail operations however remained unaffected during the shutdown.

The state-wide bandh was called in protest against the alleged objectionable comments made by Congress workers against PM Narendra Modi and his late mother last week in Darbhanga during the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’.

Meanwhile several senior leaders of the BJP trained guns on the opposition over the incident involving derogatory remarks made against PM and his late mother

Interacting with the media, deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Samrat Choudhary said “The people of Bihar including mothers and sisters are in pain. They themselves have called for a Bandh and have got the support of the BJP and the NDA. How can they abuse the PM’s mother? RJD and Congress have abused mothers and sisters, making it a shameful day for democracy.

Choudhary thanked Bihar’s mothers and sisters for understanding PM Modi’s pain and gave a befitting reply to Congress and RJD leaders via the Bandh.

“Political matters are discussed, political ideologies are opposed, individual comments are not allowed,” he added.

Bihar BJP President Dilip Jaiswal also attended the protest and demanded an apology from Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav over the alleged derogatory remarks abusing PM Modi and his mother.

“Few days ago, from the stage of the I.N.D.I Alliance, PM Modi’s late mother was abused. Today, NDA is observing a five-hour Bihar Bandh against the derogatory remarks against PM Modi’s late mother. Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav should apologise to the nation,” said Jaiswal.

Earlier PM Modi on Tuesday, September 2 had also condemned the abusive remarks directed at his late mother, saying they were an insult to all mothers, sisters, and daughters of Bharat.

PM Modi stated that he had never imagined that such an act would take place on the tradition rich land of Bihar. He also termed mothers as everyone’s “self-respect” and “world”.

“Mother is our world. Mother is our self-respect. I had not even imagined what happened a few days ago in this tradition-rich Bihar. My mother was abused from the stage of RJD-Congress in Bihar… These abuses are not just an insult to my mother. These are insults to the mothers, sisters and daughters of the country. I know… how bad all of you, every mother of Bihar, felt after seeing and hearing this! I know, as much pain as I have in my heart, the people of Bihar are also in the same pain,” PM Modi said.
