Ranchi: Two security personnel were martyred while another jawan sustained injuries in a fierce exchange of fire that broke out between security forces and ultras belonging to banned Tritiye Sammelan Prastuti Committee [TSPC], said police.
The gunfight broke out in Kedal area under the jurisdiction of Mantu police station of Palamu district at around 12.30 am on Thursday. The martyred personnel have been identified as Sant Kumar and Sunil Ram.
As per officials, the operation was launched against notorious Maoist commander Shashikant Ganjhu, a key operative of the TSPC group.
“Two police jawans lost their lives and another was injured in an encounter between police and the banned extremist outfit Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC) late last night. Police had launched an operation against the TSPC commander Shashikant Ganjhu, who has a reward of Rs 10 lakh declared against him, in Manatu area of Palamu. During the operation, an encounter broke out, resulting in the loss of two lives from the police side,” said Michaelraj S, IG Operations.

The injured jawan was immediately rushed to the nearby medical facility and reported to be out of danger. It is being speculated that a number of Maoists had also sustained injuries in the gunfight and an intensive search operation is being conducted in the area.
Suspected members of TSPC on August 24 had torched multiple vehicles of a private company in Hazaribagh’s Charhi area. The incident occurred on the intervening night of August 23-24 at around 1 AM.
6 vehicles of an outsourcing company associated with a Central Coalfield Limited’s [CCL] project in the area were targeted and set ablaze during the attack.
The extremists during the attack also thrashed staffs of the company, issuing warning to shut down the work.
A Jharkhand based group, TSPC came into existence in 2002 after breaking away from Maoist Communist Centre of India (MCCI), which later merged with the People’s War Group to form CPI Maoist in 2004.
