New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday met and felicitated the Central Reserve Police Force [CRPF], Chhattisgarh Police, DRG and Cobra jawans in New Delhi, who successfully carried out ‘Operation Black Forest’ on Karreguttalu hill, said the Union Home Ministry in an official statement issued on September 3.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai and Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma were also present on the occasion.

Union Home Minister Shah congratulated the jawans for showing valour in making the biggest anti-Naxal [Maoist] operation ‘Operation Black Forest’ ever conducted on Karreguttalu hill, a success. He said that the bravery and valour of the jawans during ‘Operation Black Forest’ will be remembered as a golden chapter in the history of the anti-naxal operations.

Shah said that the Modi government will not rest until all the Naxalites either surrender, are caught or eliminated. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, we will make India Naxal-free.

Praising the valour of security personnel, Shah said that despite the heat, altitude and the danger of IEDs at every step, the security forces made the operation successful with high spirits and destroyed the base camp of the Naxalites. He said that the material dump and supply chain of the Naxalites built on the Karreguttalu hill were valorously destroyed by the jawans of Chhattisgarh Police, CRPF, DRG and Cobra.

The Home Minister underscored that Naxalites have caused great damage to the least developed areas of the country, shutting down schools, hospitals and not allowing government schemes to reach the people.

He said that due to anti-Naxal operations, there has been a new sunrise in the lives of 6.5 crore people in the area from Pashupatinath to Tirupati.

pic.twitter.com/cDWbz2Eaqi

“Modi government is making every effort in making lives of the security forces smooth, who have suffered serious physical injuries in anti-Naxal operations. The government is committed to make the country free from Naxalism by March 31, 2026,” added the Union Home Minister.

“Operation Black Forest”

Security forces launched a massive offensive against the Maoists after receiving intel related to several top Maoist leaders forming a unified command at Karregutta or the Karegauttalu Hills, an impregnable stronghold of Maoists in Bijapur district along the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border.

Several top leaders of the outlawed group had reportedly taken refuge at the hills after intensified operations of forces and establishment of security camps in Abujhmad and other adjoining areas.

Maoist were said to be using Karregutta Hills as their operational base and unified command since the last two and half years with around 300-350 armed cadres of the group including the technical department and other important units operating from there.

The extremely tough geographical terrain of the Karregutta Hills, stretching around 60km in length with its breadth varying from 5 to 20 km had made it difficult for the forces to navigate, providing a naturally fortified shield to the extremists.

The forces however chalked out a comprehensive plan and a joint operation involving thousands of personnel were launched on April 21.

The three-week long operation which was said to be the largest ever offensive launched against the outlawed CPI [Maoist] resulted in neutralization of 31 Maoists carrying a whopping cumulative bounty of Rs 1.72 cr.

The offensive further led to recovery of 450 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), over 800 Brigade Grenade Launchers (BGL) shells along explosive material in huge quantity.

In addition, nearly 12,000 kilograms of food supplies were also recovered during the campaign which further led to complete eradication of at least four technical units associated with the production of BGL shells, homemade weapons and IEDs.

More than 210 Maoist hideouts (cave like bunkers) were also successfully located and destroyed during the campaign. These hideouts were being used as weapon manufacturing units by the Maoist’s technical department. A total of 18 security personnel had sustained injuries in various IED explosions triggered by the Maoists during the operation.
